McCoy's BBQ — Restaurant in Lyman

LISTEN..... I've had BBQ in St Louis, Memphis, Texas, and so many other places. Bar none, best BBQ in SC and it isn't even close. Definite top 5-10 in the NATION. Personally, this is the best BBQ I've ever had.

Pricing: reasonably priced especially considering the generous portions. Food:

Brisket - literally tender enough that the plastic fork could cut it. So flavorful, and a great portion.

Mac N Cheese - always a risk because usually it's dry at BBQ places and McCoy's smokes theirs so I was very worried. However, their Mac was so creamy, cheesey, and packed with flavor.

Baked beans - my gosh. I am not even a huge baked beans fan because most are so bland and the usual mix of brown sugar with some variety of chopped meat.... McCoys has the most flavorful baked beans I've ever tried. If they ever canned these to sell in stores I would buy them. The way they finely chopped the (what I believed to be jalapenos) so that they were sprinkled in, gave it just enough heat to notice but not enough to make you cry.

Banana Pudding - not my personal favorite (I have a big love for Magnolia's in NYC) BUT their banana pudding is definitely delicious and worth getting. Would love if they had a cobbler or just a couple more dessert choices.

Aesthetics - operating from a food truck always makes me weary. Like a dirty bathroom in a restaurant tells you not to trust the food, imo same goes for an unkempt food truck. That said, the food truck looked immaculate, it was clear the workers were properly handling food, and I don't believe I've ever seen a cleaner food truck from the exterior.

Bonus - how thoughtful to put up canopies to shade customers waiting in the hot sun.

It was my first time ever going to Lyman (for work) and I have another trip there soon. McCoys will be the go-to and I may even be driving 2 hours from home JUST for this BBQ from time to time. IT...

As a MS native who grew up on Memphis and MS-style BBQ, I LOVE BBQ, and it’s “the thing” I seek out when traveling. I’ve probably been to literally hundreds of BBQ joints, and, as any BBQ enthusiast knows, not all BBQ is created equally.

When I found out McCoy’s BBQ was moving from Fredericksburg, VA to Lyman, SC, I got depressed. Why? Because I moved to northern VA 8 years ago, and of all the VA BBQ joints I have tried in VA, McCoy’s is leagues above them all (Beans in Edinburg, VA is excellent, but McCoy’s has the crown in my book). Now, it may be that BBQ snobs would say, “Well, there’s your first problem; good BBQ can’t come from VA.” But good BBQ is good BBQ, and having had it all over the country, I have learned location matters not. McCoy’s is easily in my top 5 of all time.

Perfectly smoked meat in all its forms. Excellent greens like your grandma used to cook—with lots of pork fat. Or, just get an entire platter of mac and cheese and carb up (or at least get a side). I tend to avoid too many carb-y foods like this, but McCoy’s is so good, I ordered it every time. I live 45 minutes to an hour from their old food truck location in Fredericksburg, and I used to time my drives through there around lunch so that I could eat at McCoy’s. It’s that good.

Congratulations, Lyman folks. You just got a new excellent BBQ joint in town. Now, there may be wonderful BBQ places in the area—I have yet to visit there. Also, McCoy’s is not traditional SC style. But I submit it is so good, you won’t even care after your first bite.

My nephew and I were going thru I95 North when we star getting Hungry , so I decide to look for a good BBQ around of incoming exits around The next exits I found a few and I star calling to se if they were open , call a few places before I found this Great Place It was a BBQ Smoker Mobil Food Trucks Call McCows , I told my nephew with a name like that it has to be a Good BBQ Lets call ! We did with no answer what a disappointment but with out hesitation I told my nephew let’s take the chance that we may not find him because he is not answering the cell phone , we when out of our route for about 7 miles thinking we just wasting our time , luckily we find them there , and that was our best decision we ever did that day , we told the Owner our story about the phone not being answer , he check his phone and realize it was unplug discharge and he thank us and he and his crew stars taking our order and they treat us like family what a great place I don’t know Exactly where they originate from to give them the right credit but the food was delicious I 100% recomend it . I especial thank the young guy very young that dispatch our food and make sure all our order was fine and cómplice He was helping the crew or family I don’t know but for his aged he could have being playing video games at home instead he was working hard just like a rest of the crew thank you guys for such a good work to please...
