Food is fair, got the sampler, dissapointing portions for the price. Less than half of a sausage (really tasty), a finger full of pulled pork (decent) with a bun (dollar store quality), 3 ribs (excellent). Sides were Mac (if you like Velveeta... I prefer the real stuff, this is about like boxed), baked beans (doctored up canned beans, mediocre), gumbo (very bland).
Pizza is a mixed bag. The spicy bbq sauce (ask for it) is pretty good if you like ketchup based thick sauce. The meat is okay, but they're stingy with it. The crust sucks. No other way to put it. It is almost definitely brought in and pre-made. No chew whatsoever, flavorless. It reminds me of school lunch crust. If they are making it in-house, they need to burn that recipe.
Like most bbq places in this part of the state, there a few worthwhile hits, and a lot of misses. But in a town which has very little and serves primarily Jack Daniel tourists, it will do the trick, but be prepared to overpay, and don't bother with the sides. If I were to return, I'd just get the sausage or ribs, which were the highlight, nice bite without it falling off the bone like lesser ribs. Nice smoke.
Lovely service, decent environment. Booths are a bit cramped.
No local beer, which is a huge shame.
Edit: forgot to mention, everything is on disposable styrofoam, which for such a busy place is a LOT of waste. I know TN doesn't care much about the environment, but this is a bit ridiculous. At least use paper if you refuse to...
Read moreTerrible service. My wife and I arrived around 1230 for a bite to eat. We were told to sit we we'd like so we picked the end of a long table, two seats. After a few minutes watching three waitresses pace back and forth we knew it was a bad sign. No one acknowledged we sat down. There were several open tables so it wasn't too busy.
Another couple arrived after us and sat at the booth directly beside us. Immediately a waitress appeared and took their drink and food order. Soon after a couple of guys stepped past me and sat at our same table. Soon after another waitress came from behind me and said "excuse me" on the way to help the guys who sat down after us. I kindly asked the waitress for menus and she appeared to be annoyed. That's another bad sign. She brought us menus but wasn't interested in taking our order.
A third waitress stopped to take our order. We ordered drinks and food from the menu. Ten me minutes or so later no drinks and no food. The guys on my left and the couple on my right we served drinks and food promptly.
Sitting patiently and waiting for more than 30 minutes with no food or drink in a small restaurant is pathetic. I can assure you my wife and I will never attempt to eat at this location anytime soon. Good luck with your future customers. Perhaps they have a problem with people wearing HD clothing. Regardless I will spend my money elsewhere. Also their bbq is "meh" so seek...
Read moreI lived for years in the Memphis area, so I've got high standards. The good: Cool atmosphere... Sort of Lynchburg hokey/touristy, but tasteful and quaint. GREAT service. Prompt, courteous, helpful. Abundant drink refills. Terrific location -- on the square. Very reasonable prices. The other stuff: Food was ok. Just ok. Sauce was heavy on the molasses, but decent (I preferred their spicy blend). Slaw was not memorable -- average in every way. Potato salad had nothing to set it apart from grocery store deli potato salad. My friend rated the beans average and the pulled pork was also average. That said, the pork was tender, pulled and smoky. No bark. Didn't seem fresh, but was fresh enough.
I'd eat there again (and will as I live in the area now). It's ok. It's barbecue, but it's just not inspired. That said, it's Lynchburg so you can't expect world class cuisine to serve a few dozen patrons daily. Our waitress was great as was our overall experience. Five stars there, but 2.5...
