After a wildly unsuccessful visit to Lynchburg for lunch (1st choice was closed, 2nd choice insisted that I sit with strangers if I wanted a spot), I wandered to Southern Perks desperate for...anything. Their menu has sandwiches, pizza, and coffee drinks. I intended to eat lunch because I was hungry.
It was around 1:30 in the afternoon on a Monday and there was absolutely no one in there. An employee came out from the back after a minute or two, but the eerily empty environment and somewhat odd smell in the space dissuaded me from actually ordering a meal. Instead, I wound up ordering a small iced white chocolate mocha to go. It was pricy for a small iced coffee -- over $6.
The employee went to the back to fix it for me. It took a few minutes but nothing unreasonable. She brought it back out to me in a cup that looked like a hot latte cup, but it was fortunately made correctly and iced.
Overall, it was...fine. Not super creamy, pretty thin and almost watery instead of milky consistency. Decent white chocolate flavor but not a ton of coffee flavor. For the price, I probably wouldn't get it again, but it was serviceable.
I dunno, I feel like I'm maybe being a little unfair because of my overall poor experience in town, but given the one thing I tried was resoundingly average, I guess I stick by my 3 star rating. Hoping for a more successful venture the next time I...

What a cute little place. I ordered Cappuccino and my wife the Mocha coffee, as well as a cinnamon roll and a blueberry muffin. The coffee was excellent—much better than Starbucks—and the pastries were very good. If I had been hungrier, I would have tried the breakfast burrito because it got rave reviews. I saw one served to another patron, and it looked really good. An excellent mom-and-pop establishment with a charming...
Read moreOk. So food is limited in this area and most is BBQ. We had high hopes considering the other reviews. Two out of four sandwiches were terrible! The beef dip was made from jerky and the au jus was almost frozen. The other sandwich had the wax paper between the cheese slices.. when we pointed these out they just offered to scrape it out and re-nuke it.. really? The staff seemed really unconcerned about their misstakes. The luxury of being the only cafe for miles..
Food choices in the area are tough so go for the BBQ or bring your own. This would be your last choice, but if you do, set aside some time....
