I’ve had good service all the other times, but tonight really made me upset. The all you can eat menu has the rules written down, and in the beginning the server tells you the rules like normal. But tonight EVERYTIME we tried to order more food or ask her for the menu again she would repeat “we will charge you extra for un finished food”. It says it on the menu and I understand if you say it the first 2-3 times but she said it EVERY SINGLE TIME SHE CAME TO OUR TABLE. She asked us if we wanted to keep our food separated or put together and we asked for it to be separated, mind you this isn’t just a small table of 2-4 people this is a large group who is each ordering their own food. Anytime she brings out food she will announce what it is and when someone raises their hand or yelled out it was theirs she just put it down on the table closest to her and said “everyone just share and help each other out, because we charge for left over food”, why would I want to share my food with someone so is sitting 5 chairs down from me? The server specifically made all of us write our orders on only 4 menus because she said it would be easier for her, ok fine but you would expect the area of each menu she took would be given the food they ordered. WRONG. Also, why is she still telling us extra food is a charge!? WE HAVE MONEY! WE CAME TO EAT AND PAY! At some point, some people had to get up and go order more food right next to her at the pos system. Everyone ordered their own sushi roll and instead of it going to the person who ordered, all the sushi gets put onto a giant boat and 2 big plates. How do you expect a large party to eat comfortably when they don’t know what is the food they ordered and everyone has to get up to go get food or pass around this big boat. She even went to the kids table and said “you have to eat everything you order or I will have to charge you extra”… are you serious THEY ARE KIDS! They’re not the ones paying the check or TIPPING YOU ON TOP OF THE GRATUITY YOU TAKE FOR PARTIES. She said the same thing every single time until someone told her, we don’t care we have the money to pay so stop saying that. She didn’t even apologize she just said ok and walked away. This could have been easy come and go if we had better service....
Read moreOur first visit to Sumo was fine. Wait staff was friendly and the food was good.
We decided to revisit for lunch today, and it was a mixed to mostly negative experience. During the order, I asked if I could substitute the miso soup with a more expensive soup with an up-charge. I was informed I could only substitute it for the other $2 soup, and if I wanted the more expensive soup, I’d have to order it separately at full price and still get the miso with my meal.
The meal arrived, the food was good again.. No complaints there. My fiancée then ordered an extra roll when the food arrived. We noticed during our meal that her roll was sitting, complete at the sushi bar. After we finished our initial orders, our plates were cleared, minus our chop sticks and soy sauce dish. Thinking “okay, we’ll probably get that last roll in a minute”, we sat around for a few more minutes, and then they went to clear the chop sticks and dishes as well. That’s when I had to remind them we ordered the extra roll.
When the bill arrived, it came out to just shy of $53 ($49.40 before tax). I had a coupon for $10 off $50 or more. The coupon had plenty of fine print, but it didn’t specify if it was before or after tax. I included the coupon, thinking that they wouldn’t fuss over the $.60 difference either way. Well, I was wrong. I was informed I’d have to use a $5 off $30 coupon, so I ordered a small salad to go. Had I been able to upgrade my soup, like at any other restaurant, that could have been avoided. I hope the $.60 was worth losing a customer.
One of these things alone wouldn’t have been an issue, but all three in one visit was my tipping point.
The only reason I’m giving the review 2 stars is because the first experience was good enough to warrant the second and the food is good, but I won’t be back. The terrible service ruined...
Read moreRead moreI ordered takeout and it was AMAZING these guys are raising the bar when it comes to customer service and quality out here in Macon. My takeout was not missing a single item. I ordered Hibachi salmon and chicken and my girlfriend got Hibachi shrimp and chicken. The food was cooked to perfection, LITERALLY. The miso soup was not oily or smell funny/ It was perfect. My salad and dressing was perfect/ My main course was cooked perfectly . We also got sushi, and to my surprise they do not use fillers like all of the other Hibachi joints in Macon. The sushi, wasabi, and even ginger was amazing. The ginger wasn't the weird pink ginger slices that you get at most restaurants and pre-packaged sushi boxes from grocery stores. It was ACTUALLY REAL FRESH SLICED GINGER and it was great. Speaking of fresh, everything was cooked to order and fresh. Nothing in our takeout meal seemed like it was old stuff that was reheated. Just the freshest ingredients for a premium price. These guys are from New York and it shows, I am so glad they decided to open their business in Macon and bring their skills down to the South and show all these other restaurant managers how its done. Worth every single penny. I can't wait to go dine in, I am convinced it will be a great time. But i will leave a review for that when that day comes. Anyway, final thing I want to add is the Manager/ Owner stays on top of the online reviews and well that is so awesome because you just don't see that at many places even in Atlanta. She is raising the bar here in Macon, and well if others don't follow suit, I think they will have a hard time staying in business. IM SO GLAD YOUR HERE@@@ Please...
