Perko's Cafe — Restaurant in Madera

We ordered from Perko’s Cafe in Madera for Valentine’s Day as we wanted some good food and a quiet evening watching a movie. My significant other ordered their barbecue bacon burger and I ordered a steak with fantail shrimp. We specified very strongly no onions and it came loaded with onions. There was almost no barbecue sauce on the burger as well which when you order a barbecue burger you want there to bbq sauce. Fries where limp and chewy. My steak was good but my shrimp was subpar and my side of macaroni literally tasted like a knock off of a box of Kraft with no cheese. It was just terrible. This was our special night and we were disappointed by the lack of care put into our food. The only redemption was that my babe called them ( we NEVER call and complain but this needed to be addressed ) and he asked for a manager. He spoke to a manager named Chris who apologized for the dissatisfying quality of our food and offered to give us a gift card, Chris took down my partners name and number so that they could make it right. Really hoping that they come through on quality next time! Trying to give them the benefit of the doubt that it was because of the Valentine’s Day rush. Great Food, amazing strawberry lemonade and I would return. I was in town for the weekend and my friends suggested this place. I thought it was going to be another Denny's but boy was I wrong. I hear most things are made from scratch. It sure tastes like it. I had the nachos half with chili and half with green sauce. They were amazing and the portions are HUGE. Ordered water but noticed the strawberry lemonade and I HAD to try it. IT WAS BOMB. I left quite please and full, could not finish the food. I returned a day later for breakfast because it was that good. I do not eat breakfast most of the time but this place had pretty good breakfast. I had 2 eggs, hash browns and pancakes for $7.75 and it was really good for the price with a good portion. Did not finish it again. All in all, it was a good experience and a good place to eat at. Unfortunately could not give it 5 stars. This is because the second time we came in we put our name down on their paper but as people started coming in we noticed that they had skipped us like 4 times. So this is my first time coming to this establishment, the host who set us he was very nice and brought us coffee and water. The host was very friendly .

Now let’s get to the waiter. He only checked on us one time and then disappeared for about 15 minutes after we got our food. I had an issue with my fish and chips. It wasn’t cooked all the way and they were cold.

Our waiter said that he got the fish fresh because normally it’s frozen, but it still taste like frozen fish to me. What threw me off was when I told him about my food it took them about 10 to 15 minutes to even come get my food and asked me if I wanted something else then they proceed to say all three throw this in the fryer ,( that a huge red flag ) health code violation)

My boyfriend got a steak lunch his steak was so rubbery wasn’t even edible and the rice pilaf was still churchy in some parts -

Overall, I wish the food was better and the service was better. It was very displeasing to have that kind of service. -
