What this place lacks in curb appeal is made up for 10x over in quality. One of the best Thai restaurants I've been too locally!
John R has to be one of the most underrated streets for the most authentic international food destinations in just a few miles.
Okay so I ordered some very American generic menu items.
I had just been craving some very specific flavors and I wanted to see how the basics would taste before getting to adventurous. I am on disability and can only afford one good outing a month and can't afford to buy food that tastes bad.
At first glance the Tom Kha w/ shrimp I ordered was smaller than I expected, the vegetables were large rough chopped. However it has most buttery coconut broth with vegetables that had been brazed perfectly with vibrant flavors and fragrance. This Tom Kha was spring time in a bowl!
The Pad Thai with chicken looked simple and decently portioned. The layers of flavor in the dish were surprising. I could taste the smokey grilled chicken throughout the dish. It permeated the layers with a complexity that only experienced chefs hands could create.
The next time I come here I will get much more adventurous. This place is amazing and has earned my confidence...
Read moreThe food is really delicious....but the portions are mid, I got some beef salad for 15$ in a small container, thaught they'd put rice but they didn't, I thaught it was a hidden gem but I like to eat allot and I'd say for that price especially the portions I'd have to spend 50$ to fill up myself, it's authentic as the food taste really great...however I was really disappointed in the portions as that can get me a medium sized pizza with 2 toppings or even one from across for less than that price, additionally....I've been here twice and I've spent 26-30$ and even that was not enough to fill me up, second time ordering something different I had assumed maybe it'd change my opinion...however it didn't, it just made me reconsider coming here if I'm hungry and looking for a place that's convenient, I wish the restaurant the best as the reviews are really good....but never taking a chance coming here again if I am going to spend that much for beef straps on salad with tomato's, cucumbers, green peppers, not sautéed at all, with chopped onion slices with green salad on a small platter, it just doesn't fill you up, and that price competivly enough could be...
Read moreI went to this restaurant for my birthday dinner, because I was excited about the curry puffs, which I'd heard of and no other Thai restaurants I researched offered them. My wife and I were the only diners in while all other traffic was for take away: to that point, the service for us was quick, but stiff and not very friendly. As for the food itself, it was quite tasty. I would call it Chinese influenced in texture and taste, but that may be because of the dishes we ate that both had brown gravies (only one of them said it had a brown gravy on the menu). I was surprised that the dishes were not more sour, which is what I love about Thai food. The apple salad, while delicious, was not nearly the sour experience I was craving. The Tom Yum soup, which I also hoped to be wonderfully sour, was more sweet, but still tasty. In the end, the curry puffs made the dinner worth the visit, and I will come back again when I am in the mood for the curry puffs and this version of Thai food. I gave it a three, but I would have given a...
