Improvements: While Muramoto Hilldale excels in its sushi offerings, it could expand its non-sushi options – while I would love to go here more often, people who don't like sushi are often turned off by a limited non-sushi menu

My girlfriend and I sat down at Muramoto in hopes of getting good tasting sushi and decent customer service, however, we received the complete opposite. We sit down at our table and the waiter fills up our glasses of water, but does not ask if we would like any other beverages even though we are both legal drinking age. We order 2 rolls hoping that there would be little wait. As we wait our water gets refilled 3 times without any word about the progress of our food or if we would like any beverages besides water. (Basic customer service activities for a waiter). After over an hour wait our food finally comes out and the first words that come out of our waiters mouth are "oh.. is it okay that the 2 rolls are on the same plate?" Zero mention or apology for the wait. After we eat our 2 rolls that took a total of 10 minutes the check was speedily placed on our table. We ask the waiter what took so long to get our food out and his response was "we were unusually busy for a Sunday". This response would have been completely fine if it was at the beginning of our wait or literally any time in the hour that our table was empty of food. It seemed like a pretty piss poor effort to apologize. We ended up speaking to the manager which also resulted in empty apologies and no discount or anything for our terrible experience. Have dined here a number of times and before tonight has always been a great experience. The food is excellent but beware of how you order. Tonight two of us ordered “sushi” of various kinds and one of us ordered “sashimi”. The sashimi came out just fine but the sushi came in rolls and not the typical nigiri style. I mentioned to the server that we ordered sushi and he told me that was sushi and I thought he was mistaken so said, “no the piece of fish on top with the rice underneath”. He proceeded to explain to me like I was a 3rd grader that what I was describing was nigiri and not sushi. I was quite taken aback at getting a lecture as well as having him explain sushi and that if I wanted what I asked for I should have ordered nigiri. Understand I’ve eaten at this restaurant multiple times and have never had this problem until tonight.

Mistakes happen but talking down to your customer is just not right. Admit you made a mistake and move on. At the end of the meal he did mention he was new. Seems like management needs to invest in customer service training before having new staff on the floor.

Great fresh fish and seafood here. I would not discourage anyone from dining here. Just be super exact in how you order or risk a lecture...
