I was visiting relatives and decided to treat everyone to Salvatore’s. This place came so highly reviewed, I thought we had to try it. We ordered around 6:30 and the wait to pick up was 50 minutes. Super long, but I thought it surely would be worth the wait.

We arrived at scheduled pickup time and called up for curbside. We were told “I’ll grab your order and be right out.” 15 minutes later, I decided to go in just to see if I could grab it myself and head out since we had hungry family members waiting. Someone saw me and checked on the order and told me they’re running behind, but it would be about 5-10 more minutes and he would bring it to our car. Another 15 minutes later, my boyfriend heads back in to see what the deal is. He sees our 2 pizzas just sitting on the counter...getting cold. They finally give him our 3rd pizza and we leave after 40 minutes of waiting.

When we get back to our place, which is not even 10 minutes away, the pizza was cold. I paid $70 for a 16 inch and 2 10inch pizzas. I mean if you’re going to charge those kinds of premium prices for pizza, then the least you can do is keep the pizza warm for carry out customers, whom you don’t seem to prioritize at all. I should not have to microwave fresh pizza after a

We had dinner here on a Saturday Night. Service was good.

However, we just ordered sodas and there was a delay because the bartender was backed up…I don’t begrudge them that, it was a little busy…but why are sodas being run through the bar? Maybe they don’t do enough sodas to warrant a separate station. Also, for what it’s worth they have the smallest water glasses…I think 4 ounces. They give you a carafe so you can refill your own waters a dozen times.

The wings with Korean BBQ were amazing. Honestly they were some of the best wings I’ve had. They were perfectly cooked with a little crisp on the outside without being dried out. They were easy to eat without falling off the bone.

The pizza is a hand tossed style. The ingredient combinations on their specialty pizzas were unique and seemed to be above average quality. The large pizzas are good-sized. They’re priced at $25 for a large. One of our pizzas had fresh tomatoes that kind of bled through and made some of the crust soggy. A few pieces of the crust were also overdone…just a hair past the god kind of char on a pizza.

Our friends really love this place and we can see why. I think we caught them with a couple of off moments on the pizza and we would give it...

Sal's is great. Maybe the best pizza in Madison overall, but definitely the best pizza of it's style in Madison. Sal's is a chewy hand tossed crust with a fired stone oven. The sauce is good and the toppings are all delicious. The Forza pizza is our favorite as it's the perfect balance of meat, cheese, and simplicity. A little advertised fact is that they actually have some really good tacos as well as pizza so it's an easy double date to get a few tacos as a starter and then split a pizza. They have several beers on tap and usually have at least 2-3 that are good and most are local breweries or at least locally popular. The service is nothing special but the front desk staff are usually friendly and quick to help. Take out is also a great option and definitely one that we take advantage of frequently. The place is small with maybe half a dozen tables for 2-6 and about the same outdoor seating in nice weather. Depending on how busy they are the table waits can be anywhere from 20min to 1.5 hrs so we always call ahead to get at least a feel for the wait time. Expect dinner to be in the 30-60 min range depending on how busy they are. Take out times are usually 20-45 min wait. Overall awesome food and a...

Don't bother. My partner and I went in for dinner early in the evening on Sunday, and were met with a number of puzzling and downright frustrating features. The place has an odd layout, including a host stand that is not sufficiently visible from the E. Wash-facing door - one staffperson was relegated to standing at that door just to tell people where to go, which seems like a real waste of staff. While the wine and cocktails seem pretty average in price for the most part, the beer prices are insane. The menu lacks decent vegetarian and vegan options. It has a "Sea" section of the menu, but even I, a pescatarian, struggled to find something satisfactory to eat, since they seem to throw bacon (or something similar) into everything. While the food tasted good, we really struggled to find the justification for the prices, especially considering the dishes are small and not necessarily unique. As if the jacked-up prices weren't enough, they're not even the real prices; DarkHorse is one of those places that upcharges you for paying with a card - you know, the form of payment most people use most of the time? I can't think of a single reason to go back, or a reason to recommend it to anyone.

This place surprised me a lot. We came here on a whim because the original restaurant we planned to head to was en route for the homecoming parade that UW Madison had going on and we wouldn't be able to get in. So we came here, and I am soooo glad we tried it. The tomato pies were phenomenal. I ordered a bacon-pepperoni custom and it was one of the best pizzas I've had. They also had an amazing old fashioned that my dad really enjoyed. One of the main surprises on the menu was their vegan chocolate cake I had for dessert. I (usually) despise beets so I was nervous seeing it in a cake, but I tried it and it was superb. Couldn't taste the beets at all, just chocolate goodness. The menu is... strange. Like, we ordered a Singapore Sling on the menu and it was so strange. It didn't taste like a Singapore Sling my dad had before, but then again it's unexpected to see a Singapore Sling on a pizzeria menu. Also the salad options are a bit strange but they were more than willing to accommodate us. Still, even with the strange ingredients and surprises, I think that's what gives this place its charm. The food is excellent and I think this might be our go-to for future trips to Madison.
