Made a trip up to Central City KY because a friend's wife had passed and on the way back I googled buffet restaurant and Country Cupboard was the closest so I proceeded to visit them. They were actually in Madisonville but only about 12 miles out of my way. The entrance was actually in the back of the building but the food bar was uniquely different. The had beef ribs, pork chops, hamburger steak, fried chicken, baked chicken and cooked beets, hominy, cooked carrots, broccoli and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy and a unique salad bar. The normal lettuce, tomato, carrots, onion and cheese but there were a couple very different and possibly specialty homemade pasta and fruit bowls, I enjoyed the different variety than I usually find on a buffet. There was ample parking, no wait and ample staff to accommodate every person desiring to eat a good meal. As I was paying, and the bill was less than 15 dollars, the receptionist said we do Thanksgiving meal every Sunday if you are near enough to visit us. They had some side rooms that looked like they were available to accommodate parties so if you are close to Country Cupboard, they will fix you a meal fit for royalty, give...
Read moreMy Mom loved to eat at Country Cupboard. She wouldn't have just 1 or 2 plates she would get everything she wanted except for dessert and have at least 4 plates and or bowls on the table when she ate. She didn't want to get up mid meal to go get more. Especially when the food was so good! When it was time for the other good stuff you could count on her having a plate full of goodies and sometimes 2! I dont know where she put it all cause she was not a big woman :) she did have a big heart and a big appetite when the food was good! We never left hungry and we never left wishing it had been better! So I write this review in honor of my Mom and one of her favorite places to go eat.. I have so many precious memories there with her and the laughs we had over all her plates of food! Having those conversations Mothers and Daughters have as they love and support each ither as we navigate through life.. Grab someone you love and go have a great meal and make some precious memories at one ( if not the best) places in Madisonville to eat...
Read moreUsually one of our favorite places to eat but last night (12/23/21) I had made Reservations a couple of weeks earlier for a family gathering of 25+ to eat at 6:00pm. A fatal wreck on the Pennyrile prevented some of our group to be there at 6:00 so we waited till about 6:15 before going to the buffet. At the buffet, only a minimal amount of chicken (3 pieces I was later told) was available as most of us didn’t get chicken, only meat a nearly empty pan of shredded ham or a limited pan of some kind of pork striplets (I think) in water, not the signature Fried Chicken or other usually excellent meat we expect to have on the bar. So much for reservations and color me very disappointed as we would not have chosen to go there had we known that we would have had to pay full price for a partial buffet meal. The cashier said they had never ran out of chicken before. Our waitress and waiter were excellent and I left them a $65 tip but had I have been aware of the lack of buffet oversight I would have...
