I am giving a 1 because I my family and I are treated everytime we are there. I didn't want to say it like this but I felt I had to. My family and I brown skinned everytime we are there we are mistreated and disrespected for no reason. How I know this is because I noticed they treat white persons with respect and better attitudes but when my family and any other persons that are not white they are treated horribly. The food is great that is a 4 out of 5 but the service is 1. My wife and I wanted a breakfast date taking a break from the kids since they are in school they were rude and rushed our meal the whole time. They served our breakfast then 5 mins later they gave us the check without asking if we needed anything else. My wife and I were the only ones there except for some white folks on the other table. Not only the waitress treated them with respect but she also made sure they were ok by checking on them more then a few times. I truly believe that every waiter and waitress there is racist and they show it with passion. They need either mote training and or terminated from their position. I and my family are always respectful and never rude to them and I am saying this with the upmost honesty. Black Bear in redmond was closed down for similar reasons. I tried to see if they would change their ways everytime in we dine there but it's hasn't changed. On another situation, we have white folk friends they were treated very nicely but my wife and I were treated with rudeness and no care. Please take this review very seriously because it's very noticed when you can clearly see their racism showing. Also one of them that mistreated me and my family is named Mickie she try to educate me on numbers that she couldn't see and I helped her with these numbers and she said you missed one see there it is. I responded from seeing the gift card myself that it wasn't scratched all the way and thats the reason why I couldn't see the number. She did scratch the last number on the back the gift card and decided to blame me for not reading the number. Again please be cautious when going here especially if you are colored skin. Thank you...
Read moreUpdate 9/15/23: Service has been stable the last few years so back to 4 stars for that. While this restaurant isn't perfect, I'm convinced it's 100% the cleanest in Madras. Extra star just for knowing I'll never feel the need to look in this kitchen...
UPDATE 1/1/2019: When super slow poor service happens once, and is promptly addressed, it's a gem of an experience. When slow service happens every other time you go somewhere, it's just lame, inconsistent service. We got here 20 minutes ago, and we are still waiting for the dessert we ordered... All while a group of employees stand around and chat. I watched another table rubberneck for 5 plus minutes waiting for their check. I have to take my original 5 stars down to 3. When service is consistently good and timely, then you earn five stars.
Original Review May 2018: OK... In the service industry, things can and do go wrong. This here is a good example...
I arrived about 10 minutes ahead of my other two diners. When they arrived, they came right over and sat down. About 15 minutes after their arrival, I got up and approached one of the servers..."do you know who our server is? We've been waiting for like 15 minutes". He actually disappeared...I was about to fume when a young lady approached...
She was very apologetic and very prepared to take our order. Another young lady stepped up to help and make sure we got our beverages rapidly. In trying to make up for our wait, the server did put a rush on our hit food, so it came right behind the soup and salad. Of course, I didn't have those so I was OK LOL!
So, as I was saying, "stuff" happens... It's how we address and handle this "stuff" that shows our true colors... Black Bear Diner stepped up and made amends. I was already happy at the recovery at this point and was prepared to throw a 4 star review when the server came back and offered dessert to make up for the neglect in the beginning. Kudos!
I'll be back for more comfort food. Oh, and the Tri-Tip dip was amazing.. Go deluxe for the cheese and shrooms.. Hold the...
Read moreUpdating review: unfortunately the last 2 times I've gone in to dine here, both orders were incorrect. Same new waitress, and at this point, if I go in and she's working there, I'll leave and go elsewhere. Two weeks ago, I ordered the meatloaf dinner with no gravy, it came out smothered . I know that's how it's described and made, but I specifically said no gravy on the meatloaf. This caused a little uproar in the kitchen, and other employees. I was seated right next to the pick up area, I heard the whole thing. After awhile it was corrected. Today I ordered the meatloaf again, and told her don't worry about the gravy, I don't want the back of the house to blow up like last time. I ordered a dinner, which comes with a salad. She took the order, cleaned a few tables and replaced silverware and talked with a coworker. There were 4 tables in the main room with guests. When she next stopped by my table it was with my dinner. I asked where is the salad. She went on to say oh I'll get it, which I declined, why let me hot food get cold while I wait for and eat a salad, that should of been brought prior to the dinner. That's how that works. It's like ordering dessert and getting it before your main meal...no. Then she offered to make me a to go salad? Hum. , no thanks. The food is good when it's correct , but the service and inability to realize something as simple as a salad is supposed to be brought out before the main is enough for me. McDonald's down the road can get 2 orders in a row right, but a sit down restaurant. that's been here since the 70's can't? Original review: This Black Bear does it right. Food is amazing, service is great, and you never leave unsatisfied. I've had horrible service at the Redmond location, but not here. Employees are friendly and...
