I had waited in line to get breakfast here 2 other times but had to leave due to the long wait, so was really excited to finally be able to wait it out this third time. I noticed on the menu that there was real maple syrup listed with an extra charge so I asked the server for that option whereupon she said she she would have to check if it was in stock. I received my order of pancakes and eggs and the maple syrup dispenser which I used on my pancakes. I had to ask if the butter tub I received was real butter and the server said it was margarine, so I asked for real butter which she did bring me. The maple syrup tasted a bit different than what I was used to with real maple syrup, and when I got up to pay my check, I noticed the syrup dispensers on other folks' tables were the same so I asked the employee at the entrance stand if what I got was real maple syrup and he said no...that is was the other type with high fructose corn syrup. I have avoided high fructose corn syrup for over 2 decades now as I cannot take such concentrated sugar and was worried how I was going to react. The employee said that he could have EMS come out and check my blood sugar but I really didn't want to make a scene. It was very disappointing that the server did not let me know that it wasn't in stock and that what she brought me was not the real deal. I think the quality of the food is very poor, and the fact that they use margarine all the time instead of real butter as well as highly concentrated fake syrup was a real bummer as with all the research and knowledge about harmful food ingredients, they would still use these products that are bad for human health just shows they really don't care to provide healthy good food but use cheap ingredients that make the food much...
Read moreWas in town for NYE— did some quick research on places to eat while we were in Maggie. Great reviews led me to try Joey’s. We initially made attempt to dine there yesterday (1/1/23) but the wait was over 40 minutes! Over 40 minutes for a breakfast place means something…something good. unfortunately we couldn’t wait that long and regretfully opted for elsewhere. We returned today, where the wait was much less—about 10 minutes. The sweet hostess in the front set the tone for how Joey’s was going to be. Not being a pancake person, but dining at a pancake house, I felt obligated to try their pancakes. Our attentive server Ben said he enjoyed the lemon poppy seed pancake as it wasn’t overly sweet like the others. This was music to my ears because i too am not a big sweets person when it comes to breakfast. My golly, miss Molly, I must share it was probably THE best pancake I’ve ever had..not dense but fluffy and tasted just like a lemon poppyseed muffin. I’m so sad it is 3 hrs away from where I live. Sigh…
My husband ordered the southwest omelet, which I tried too of course and it was delicious as well! Their biscuits and gravy was perfect too! Usually I find most places to make their gravy on the saltier side but theirs was just perfect. The biscuit was sooo good as well. I’m drooling as I write this review. Hands down top 5 breakfast places I’ve tried. Ever. The service was attentive all around. We had ladies coming up to us to refresh coffees too. Everyone was just so pleasant. I can’t say enough. The only drawback was the longer then desired wait time for food, maybe 30-40 minutes? But everything else made up for it. I highly recommend this establishment!
P.S.- love the decor and ambiance inside as well! Very cozy and rustic NC vibes w/beautiful...
Read moreWell we stopped here going to the casino that I haven't been to in a long long time. The last time we stayed here I got sick and the line was out the door. I found them on Google with the great reviews. We pulled into the parking lot not to bad found a spot. As soon as you walk in the door you are greeted and they take your party size, name and number down. When it your turn she calls out your name and sends a text telling you your table is ready. You step through the double doors and go towards another host stand that greets you again and shows you to your seat. The table are all alike and they Miss. Starr come to greet us with her fresh pot of coffee. I asked a few questions about the menu she was very polite and actually was laughing and smiling with us. I ordered the special with the pancakes, scrambled eggs and sausage patty. I upgraded the packages to the lemon blueberry ones. Boo got the same except just the blueberries. He wanted what I ordered but ordered wrong. The food was hot and she brought us a heated bottle of syrup to the table. I hardly used any cause my came with the sauce on the side. O my gosh these pancakes was perfect in every way. They were light and fluffy you could taste both the lemon and the blueberries coming through. Then they had fresh blueberries and a dollop of whip cream on them. I am not a breakfast kinda girl. Boo loves breakfast and likes when I cook it for supper. I wanted to find a place for him to enjoy cause he has been my # 1 lately. I would definitely go back to eat breakfast. The hostess told me her favorite was the biscuits and gravy. Boo loved his also and was a little jealous that mine was better. Ask for Starr she was a wonderful waitress and I hope to see her again when we're...
