My sister in law planned a trip to Maggie Valley, NC (just outside of Ashville) to go skiing. For these of you that know me I've torn my acl twice and am therefore a bit terrified to go skiing so I didn't ski but one thing I did love about Maggie Valley were the little restaurants in the small tourist town. Just across the street from the comfort inn (5 star hotel in Maggie Valley 😂😭😑) was Pop's biscuits, burger and barbeque, a mom and "pop" shop that makes awesome food. I ended up getting chicken and waffles and a biscuit and it was totally delicious, let's dissect why: 1. The waffle: this looks like any other waffle right? No - this waffle was perfectly crisp on the outside fluffy on the inside, topped with butter and maple syrup out was perfect 2. The chicken: this chicken had crispy skin and was really juicy. I took a bite with the waffle every time and man this pairs perfectly with the waffle 3. The biscuit: Pop makes good biscuits. This biscuit was soft and buttery, was it necessary with chicken and waffles? Probably not, but am I glad I ate it? You bet I am. If you happen to be skiing in Maggie Valley Pop's is your spot to check out.

Boo took me away for a quiet weekend just adults. We went here for breakfast it was ok. Nothing spectacular just jumped out at me. The diner was cute older mom and pop which we love. The waitress we had was older and she ran circles around everyone else and actually smiled while doing it. That made me happy to be there she was our waitress and I'm glad. Just observing while waiting the others did not feel the same way she did. I tried the gravy and biscuits with eggs scrambled with sausage on the side. The gravy was flavored and had a good taste the biscuits was missing something. They just wernt slopping biscuits. My parents cooked homemade breakfast every Sunday. Momma O fluffy biscuits sucked dad's gravy right up. I would rather have can biscuits that taste better than no taste homemade biscuits. I dont know if they make em with butter or lard but something was missing. To bland no taste sausage and eggs were good. Boo got the omelet and coffee. He agreed about the taste. I do want to add that they were very busy not many places were open and we did pick this place for the reviews.

We're from a large city, so we were unprepared and unaccustomed to small-town tendencies, like restaurants being closed at the beginning of the week. Pop's Biscuits was one of the few local diners open on a Monday/Tuesday in the nearby area. Things you should know: I. PARKING There's a small private parking lot directly off the road and in front of the building. Easy. You can tell we're from a big city because I specify parking in all my reviews haha this parking is just... So obvious. II. SERVICE Friendly ~ There was one waitress serving all the tables III. QUALITY Classic southern cooking. The fried grits were so new to me ~ highly recommend trying this if you're from the city. It could be totally new to you also. IV. CAPACITY Fair amount of available seating for a Tuesday morning. I can see this place being packed on the weekend.

Possibly the worst breakfast experience I have ever encountered. Myself and 4 of my friends had heard great things about Pop's and decided to go here for a delicious breakfast. We expected a little wait time as it is a very small place. We arrived just before 11am and stood there for about 5 minutes as different employees wondered around. Finally someone asked if we would like to be seated and they said it would be about 5 to 10 minutes.

Finally after over 40 minutes we were seated. One server took our drink order and brought out 2 cups of coffee and told the other 3 that they were waiting on a new pot to brew. After about 5 minutes they took our order, while a 2 top and two other single tops were seated just after us. We watched them all get their food, eat it and were finished when our food finally came out. Our food took over 40 minutes from the time the order was placed. The two orders of french toast were not even soaked, they were basically just plain french bread that was pan fried and were rather tasteless. The biscuits were made from scratch and were good. The sausage patties were also very tasty. Just sad that overcooking and under-cooking ruined it for us. Extremely slow and disorganized staff only added to our disappointment.

The two omelettes that were ordered were overcooked, hard and had a slight burnt taste to them. The sausage gravy was good and the food was served hot or warm enough. When one of our party complained about the french toast, they offered him an order of pancakes and he gladly accepted. When the order of hotcakes came out they were very dense and a little runny still on the inside. Not the fluffy, light cakes one would expect from such an establishment. When the cook/owner came out, he had an attitude and was shocked that we would have such a complaint about his food. He did not bother to apologize at all, simply walked away in anger and told them to remove the french toast from our bill. Not a single apology was offered, only snaring looks and comments were made in the background as the owner watched us in disgust.

Cooking orders and serving customers in the order they are seated would be the expectation here and that was just not the case. After waiting 40 mins to be seated and another 40 mins to receive our mundane food, it was upsetting to see others receive their food and already have it finished before getting our orders.

In summation, the food was average at best, and only a few items at that. This place is not very clean, extremely disorganized, mismanaged and full of attitude. If you are looking for a good experience, I suggest elsewhere. I understand having a bad day, but this was our first....and ONLY visit we will make to Pop's. Sadly we will not recommend anyone else to go here, to the contrary, we will urge folks...

Traveling home from Cherokee and stopped in around 10 or after. Not many tables in the place but it wasn't a long wait at all. The menu is sooo different in a good way but also has all of your usual breakfast favorites! Since I was traveling I wanted to eat somewhat light so I ordered the 2 egg breakfast with bacon and home fries plus toast or biscuit (I had toast). It was all cooked very well, bacon was AMAZING...thick-cut, apple wood smoked and cooked just right. Home fries were absolutely homemade, nice chunks with onion and lots of pepper. I probably could've done with less pepper but honestly, it was still very delicious. My daughter had the kids meal (choose 3 of various breakfast products which I love the idea of, btw!)...scrambled egg, piece of bacon and a humongous Mickey Mouse shaped pancake which she shared with me (SO GOOD!! So so good!) The coffee was good and STRONG and service was good. As a server I tend to critique based off of what I do, although she wasn't bad She wasn't great either. And I loved how Pop, the owner came out to check on everyone in the dining area. You could tell he took pride in his food and appreciated us as customers. The smile never left his face! (Also, while we were waiting for our table you could hear him singing some Elton John back in the kitchen from the radio playing a classic rock station! 😋) Seriously bless business owners like him! I hope he sticks around for many many many years to come! I honestly wish I lived closer so I could frequent more often but when we head back that direction I fully intend to stop in and try more of their awesome dishes! I suggest you do too if you are reading this!!!! You will NOT be...

Recommended by locals, but were sorely disappointed.

Hostess was a 12-13 yr girl; took our name told us 10-15 min wait. No problem.... about 20 min goes by and people that came in after us (same size tables) are sat before us. I ask a waitress to put us back on the list - the young girl has started a new list without completing the first one. She takes a party of 9 and tries to seat it a booth for 6, they don't fit. She makes them go back and wait - then seats us (2) at the booth for 6. Following table is 5 ppl sat at a smallish table for 4. Manager asked the table behind us if they ordered an appetizer, but it was our appetizer she was trying to give them. She then offered them half off their bill for the wait. We didn't mind the wait, didn't complain - did mention our appetizer was under cooked and unedible - she didn't even take it off our bill.

Food was slow to arrive, waiter only checked on us once, manager brought our food almost an hour after being sat. Yes they were busy, but this was seriously poor management. Food was not cooked completely and after listening to the preteen hostess tell wait staff that she was going to "Tell her daddy and get them fired"... I'll never go back, and would not recommend this place to anyone.

I fully support family owned businesses - but having a power tripping preteen as a hostess is just unprofessional and a...
