Portillo's Pick Up Rosemont — Restaurant in Maine Township

I love me some Portillos but I will never return to this location again. First there is no dine in. Once I got over that I decided ok, I will drive through then sit in my car and eat.

I order 1 regular beef sandwich, 1 small fry, cup of cheese and a large coke. Simple enough right. I pull around, cars in front of me get their orders and leave, I pull up to the front of the line. At the front of the line there at 2 large glass doors that the employees come in and out of to run food to the cars. Again they are glass. As I sat in my car I could look in and see everything the employees were doing in the immediate area.

I like to have fun at work, but there's a time and place. And if you're actions are on full display for customers to watch maybe giggling and trying to gross out your bestie should be kept in the locker room. The one young woman was bent over a hand sink next to the soda machine when her friend grossed her out to the point of making her sick.

I can tell you the favorite super hero of another young man by the fry station as it was printed on his underwear. Which I had the misfortune of viewing because he simply couldn't be bothered to keep his pants all the way up. That may be a cool look when your hanging out with your friends, not when you're serving my food.

And now back to my order. Again, regular beef, fries, soda....15 minutes later. After serving the 3 cars behind me. And after witnessing far more then I wanted to see from the staff a young man came out, apologized for the wait and told me he upgraded my fries from small to a large. But if you pour a small into a large is that really an upgrade? Because I'm quite certain that is what was done.

Again, I love Portillos, but this location seems to be run by teenagers and I will never go back. Go to the nice one up in Skokie instead where you can go inside sit down and...

Placed a mobile order for pickup. Pulled up to the online order lane in the drive-thru, and we were the only ones there. We gave the name on the mobile order, and were told to pull through to the window. Out of the three or four lanes, we were in the far right, with only two other vehicles being helped in the other lanes. At this point, it was 6 minutes after our scheduled pickup time. We sat there for at least another 5 minutes before anyone approached our vehicle, despite there being multiple workers standing around. When we gave the name for the order to the employees working near the window, they seemed surprised like they didn’t expect us. They threw together our order on the spot and sent us on our way. When we got to the hotel to eat our food, they gave us the incorrect order. They gave me a single patty cheeseburger instead of a double. They also did not cut the burger in half as requested. They did not give us ketchup, even though we specified we wanted it for the fries. Lastly, the cake shake is very mid and not worth the calories. It did not live up to the hype by any means. This all may seem small, but it is very frustrating when you pay $40.00 expecting a correct and quality order, and it is both wrong and not great tasting. Also, it is unreasonable to expect a customer to open the boxes that the burgers are in to check to make sure there are the correct amount of patties on it before pulling away...

This location is only a pick-up location and they serve only the basic Portillos food as well, so you can't order any of the Barnellis dishes here. I've had mixed results with this location. My first visit here (sometime in 2024 based on the review I'm editing) it took 10 minutes for a Chopped Salad without scallions to be ready. The two workers I had encounters with were pleasant. I awarded this Portillos 2 stars based on this experience. My recent visit (April 2025) was extremely impressive. I placed an online order and the site said they needed 20 minutes to prepare it. Fine. No big deal. I arrived only 12 minutes later and the order was already prepared. Much like the first time, I only had encounters with 2 workers. But both were pleasant. On top of that, my order was actually properly made. Thats an art form I thought Portillos had previously forgotten. This visit is 5 stars and everything Portillos USED to do. I'm pleased. To get my new score I averaged my (then existing) 2 star visit from before with the 5 star visit today to get 3.5, which I normally would round up, but because Portillos has been so frustrating in years past. I'm rounding down to 3. Which is still up from the 2 I had. Should next time be a 4 or 5 star experince it will make this my rating a 4. Perhaps things are looking up again...
