Simply the best pie you can find if what you're looking for is that thin crust style. A little bit burned on the edges oh I love that! Who knows why it's just good that way. I've never been to the New Haven location. Closest I've been is Grand APizza in North Haven and Pepe is on par with them or better. I've been to the Manchester location for dine in and take out many times. Never any problems, pizza is always excellent. I usually go topping crazy at other places that have a thinker pie but at Pepe's I feel like their best is just a plain cheese pie. I've had the clam pie and thought it was good, a little salty, but yeah, it's clam so. I think they're best when I stick to basics like plain cheese, or maybe pepperoni. Now we just need them to deliver to my house. I'm not going to use DoorDash
Had to update: Lol saw a reviewer complain about the slices and the way they're cut oddly and uneven. That's the whole point! They do it that way intentionally. Variety's good as near the end I may want a smaller piece. I'm sure that's how it's been done at Pepe's since the dawn of time in New Haven. It's Frank Pepe's signature. They probably started doing that long ago so families could get different size slices to accommodate children who'd be given a small slice, in contrast to the adults getting a...
Read moreWe ordered a small half Original Tomato Pie/half Original Tomato with Mozzarella, a small half Doppio Pepperoni/half Pepperoni & Hot Cherry Tomatoes, and a liter of Foxon Park Soda Root Beer. Everything we ordered was worthy of our of taste buds. It's tough to rank, but the original tomato pie was ultimately my favorite. But the pepperoni with hot cherry tomatoes was addictive and the root beer with it was the perfect combo. That Foxon root beer is something else.
Coming from the West Coast, my immediate reaction of walking into Frank Pepe's and seeing the pizzaiolos with their massive pizza peels was, "Whoa!" And the coal fired oven in action is unreal. I love being able to see what's going on in the kitchen, and the setup for this pizzeria is incredibly cool. Plus, the accessibility of the toilet (designed to support elderly and handicapped) and the homey feel of the changing table just made it feel like a restaurant that cares about its customers. I love it!
Our waitress, Jodi, really brought the experience home. She was welcoming, provided excellent recommendations, and was simply a delightful person. The service from start to finish was superb. I loved Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana and will definitely...
Read moreJust started working down the road last week. Been here once before a couple months back and the experience was really good. Stopped by to see if they did slices because I needed a quick bite. Unfortunately they don’t. But I got a small pie that was done in 10 minutes in a lunch rush! I was very impressed and it was enjoyable watching the guys work the pizza oven! It’s truly an art form! The guy had a pie coming out every minute! I probably looked like an impatient jerk, but I was so entertained watching the process!
As far as the pie goes, it’s definitely good quality pizza! I admire this style of pizza a lot! The crust is overcooked to perfection so you get a crunch in every bite. The sauce is fresh and sweet! Not a lot of acidity in it. I could probably eat an entire small pizza to myself and feel fine after! This is the place you want to bring your friends and share 3-4 pies! This is also the place you want to take your family to a sit down meal instead of ordering to go! Growing up in New England everything is just Typical Greasy Football Pizza. It’s a loaf of bread with all your toppings on it… After 3-4 Slices your having heart palpitations and your sweating profusely the rest of the day…
