EDIT since I could not reply to their reply: going to give KS another chance, awesome response - it seems they truly due care and are experiencing a rough patch (which anyone can). Bumping up everything by a star in anticipation, will update review after our next visit.
Short version: no longer recommend - there are better places.
Long version: KS Kitchen used to be our go-to for Indian food. We sang their praises for years to anyone that would listen. I recommended it to everyone, and a lot of my good Indian food seeking friends ate there due to my recommendation... but lately, it's just not the same - and it is definitely getting worse every visit.
Over the last four trips for meals there (three takeout, one dine-in), the food has been late for take out - sometimes double the time they quoted, even when it’s visibly not busy for dine in nor take out (quote longer if your 20-minute quote is unrealistic, I will understand compared to waiting 25 more minutes). More importantly, the quality has taken a hit no matter if eating there or getting take-away. Some examples - chicken is consistently dry, flavors feel missing, texture of some meats is disturbing, and even when we ask for "extra spicy, Indian spicy," it now comes out extremely mild. The wait staff used to be super friendly, but now seem cold and treat you as being an annoyance for being there.
I understand recipes can change, and working in back of house restaurants in the past, you cannot make everyone happy, but this feels like a bigger shift... like they just don’t care as much anymore, if at all. It’s disappointing to say, but after giving it several chances, we’re done.
It was great for a while, but something changed, and it’s just not what it used to be. KS Kitchen is no longer in our rotation.
EDITED FOR TYPOS - also, I really do believe there was some shift in management or direction that made this place take a turn for the worse. I miss the old...
Read moreRating four stars because it's new and I could tell the owner was trying his best, but wasn't a fan of the food or experience. The prices were very high compared to the other Nepali/Indian places in town. Food was standard and nothing to write home about, we got the Tikka masala and naan bread. Despite ordering medium spice, there was very little flavor or kick to the masala.
Service and atmosphere wise, the lights were turned off and the place was pretty dark. There was no sign or indication at the front on whether you could seat yourself or needed to wait to be seated. We received water without ice which I found was a bit odd (although I looked past as ice in water is an American thing). Service was incredibly slow despite there only being one other patron in the restaurant at the bar. I'll always excuse bad service if the food is good and the right price, but it was kind of disappointing here. I eventually flagged down the owner for boxes and the bill. He was apologetic and gave us free naan bread to go which was nice of him.
There's a lot of puzzling things about this place. They would probably do well with lower prices, a smaller space off of Elm (where rents are cheaper) and a more fast casual vibe that is takeout oriented (there are already at least two others sit down Indian places downtown). The current space is massive and unfortunately will likely go unfilled, which explains the high prices as you're subsidizing prime real estate. I wish the best for them, but I don't see this place lasting in it's current form...
Read moreWe just moved to Manchester and decided to try this restaurant because we live right across the street and there were so many reviews saying how good the food is. And those reviews are correct. The food is really, really good. However…
It took us 30 minutes to even get a glass of water…and we were the only people in the restaurant (we were eating mid-afternoon). We thought about leaving several times because of lack of service, but decided to stay because we wanted to try the food. We asked the server for water when we placed our order (which took 15 minutes of waiting to do) and she said, “Yes of course.” We did t see her again until our food came.
The food was really good. But this place is (in my opinion) way too expensive. My wife and I each got a chicken curry dish (butter chicken and chicken tikka masala) and an order of naan bread. No appetizer. No drinks. Curry dish, naan bread, and water. With 15% tip and taxes, it came out to $54. $27 for a curry plate is CRAZY! It wasn’t enough food that I was taking food home. Only four or five small pieces of chicken. Absolutely no reason it should have cost as much as it did.
As I said, the food was good, but it wasn’t good enough for a thirty minute wait and it definitely wasn’t $27 a person...
