An experience that left a bitter taste without a single bite! As someone in the third trimester of pregnancy, food cravings can be incredibly specific and all I wanted was home fries with yellow cheddar cheese. Before placing my order, I made a point to ask the waitress if yellow cheddar was available. She confirmed, and I ordered with confidence. Unfortunately, when our food arrived, the home fries came smothered in white cheese. I asked again, and the waitress casually told me they only carry white cheddar, contradicting what she’d previously assured me. She then walked away without offering any help or solution. My friend kindly approached her to request plain home fries instead, given the mix-up. This was met with visible irritation. The waitress loudly questioned why we wanted to change the order, despite having clarified that our request was based on her earlier confirmation. She then proceeded to loudly complain to kitchen staff, mocking the simplicity of my request while I stood nearby, increasingly uncomfortable. Feeling disrespected, I decided to cancel the home fries entirely. But the exchange didn’t stop there. The waitress again shouted to the kitchen to cancel the order, attributing my decision to “hearing their conversation” instead of acknowledging the discomfort they’d caused. We hadn’t even taken a single bite when she placed the check on our table and coldly wished us a “nice day.”
To top it off, when we asked to speak with a manager, we were told she was cooking in the back (the lady making the rude comments), with no owners available. The second waitress couldn’t have been more dismissive, smirking and snickering as we tried to explain ourselves.
Throughout the entire visit, we felt unwelcome, dismissed, belittled, and frankly embarrassed. What makes this harder to ignore is the fact that we were the only people of color in the restaurant, and the only ones treated this way. I can’t say for sure whether race was a factor, but the disparity in treatment was impossible to overlook. We left hungry, with our untouched food still on the table. I was nearly in tears as we walked out! What should have been a warm and joyful breakfast turned into an incredibly upsetting experience. Thankfully, we later found a breakfast spot in Glastonbury where the food was amazing and the staff were genuinely kind, attentive, and welcoming. That contrast made it even clearer how poorly we’d been treated earlier. We will never return to this establishment. Everyone deserves to be treated with basic respect and dignity, especially when dining out and this place failed us...
Read moreOverview: The Angry Egg is a complete hit or miss in all areas, but if you need food that's leagues better than any fast food nearby, this is your place. The value you get for what you pay can't really be beat. Note: I've been here at least 5 times now, so this isn't a hasty decision.
Food: I've had a large portion of the breakfast menu at this point and the majority of it is pretty good. All of the wraps I can highly recommend, packed with flavor and will definitely fill you. Be careful when ordering something with a side of seasonal fruit, it's a complete mixed bag; one time you may get a bunch of mixed fruits with even proportion amounts which is great, other times you'll get a full cup of honeydew and a grape, or a semi-mushy pile of fruit. The 'I'm Hangry' is a massive meal and can definitely feed 2! The pancakes are huge, so beware and be hungry! The omelets are also huge, and can't go too wrong if you want a filling breakfast, 1 omelet meal could feed 2 as well. Every time I've ordered something here there was something that was off. Whether the tater tots were fridge cold, my wrap being sopping wet (egg white veggie wrap), or getting seasonal fruit that is a solid piece of honey dew, mushy, and the list goes on... there hasn't been a single time I've ordered that something ruined the meal. If French Toast was on your mind, I would recommend something else (unless it was a miss the time we got them).
Drinks: Only had hot chocolate, and water. The hot chocolate is good :)!
Service: Not sure how to address this, but as a theme of the review, it's a complete hit or miss. When you walk in you'll either be able to sit down immediately or have to write your name to wait. You may or may not have the waitress serving you bring you more water or bother to ask how the food is. When waiting it may be anywhere from 5 minutes to 45 minutes and you may be skipped! I once had an awful experience where we were told the wait was 15-20 minutes, so we wait...and we wait.. and we wait. We walk in almost an hour after we were to get the call and get told they called us but nobody picked up so they crossed us off the list. I asked what number they called and it was clearly mine and inform the waitress/hostess that I never got a call. She said I just simply didn't pick up. I showed her my phone call history, including spam and it was empty, no call. She again insisted I didn't pick up when they called (hint hint, there was no call made). Eventually the manager, I'm assuming, promised us a table ASAP, and...
Read moreAbsolutely awful experience. As a customer I don’t think I’ve ever been treated this horrible. Our experience first started when the waitress rudely snatched the menu out of my friends hand. Then when our food came out. I DO NOT recommend the “stuffed” French toast. On the menu it states that the French toast is stuffed with mascarpone. Upon the plate being delivered we found a huge glop of mascarpone along the bottom of the French toast slices instead of it being STUFFED which caused it to be soggy as soon as we got it. Upon viewing their lovely sign inside stating that if you had a great experience to leave a review, or if you had a bad one talk to someone instead we decided to talk to someone. We respectfully called out waitress over and showed our waitress how the plate was to get it fixed and the waitress proceeded to go get another woman from the back who tried to explain how it was cooked. The woman then proceeded to tell us that the mascarpone is simply placed between the slices and is presented as such. Our plate clearly did not support that claim since it was a huge glob on the bottom of the plate. When we told her that’s not what stuffed meant, she then tried to explain herself again. At that point we just returned the plate and they were nice enough to comp it. We still had another plate we were trying to enjoy when the check was quickly brought out to us after. Upon feeling rushed and unwelcome we decided to take one part of our meal to go and pay our check. After this horrible experience I am not afraid to admit I did not leave a tip. When service is even mediocre I will always tip 20% or more. Upon signing my receipt and heading outside to walk to my car, the lovely waitress decided to then open the door of the establishment and yell to my friend and I. A small business can only succeed if they serve the community well. As a big supporter of small businesses, I decided to give this restaurant a try. I will not be returning and do not recommend. The only tip I will give this establishment is to learn how to handle constructive criticism. After experiencing how they handled the criticism in person and online to the other reviews who have given them bad reviews, it’s evidently clear they need serious help in...
