Charles Cheney (1866-1942) an American industrialist, lived in Manchester, CT. Mr. Cheney and his six brothers built a silk industry empire in the late 1800’s that lasted until the mid-1900’s. Over 100 acres and a large number of brick buildings are listed on the US Registry of National Historic Landmarks. The Cheney Inn, in operation since 2016, is the former home of Mr. Charles Cheney.||The house, built by the Cheney family at 131 Hartford Road in 1864 and renovated in early 1900, sits atop a small hill surrounded by over 5 acres of land, with grass and beautiful mature trees. Inside, the 4-room B & B is spotless and beautifully appointed with period appropriate furnishings. The public areas are large and gorgeous. My wife and I stayed in the Blue Room, a huge bedroom with lots of windows on three sides, overlooking a koi pond and the grounds, a fireplace, king bed, custom-made silk draperies and blinds. Laura, the owner/manager, is a soft spoken, pleasant woman. Both days we had a simple continental breakfast in the dining room. ||So what is the problem? Why only 3* instead of 5* that it should get? TV, air conditioner and fans are hooked with loose long extension cords.||Notwithstanding the above problems, we loved our stay at the Cheney Inn. I think for travelers who appreciate historic, beautiful homes and are willing to overlook some minor shortcomings, it is a great place. It would, however, be misleading to give 5* to Cheney Inn for...

From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with the warmth and hospitality that made me feel right at home. The inn is impeccably clean and beautifully maintained, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere.
The suites are nothing short of massive, offering plenty of space to relax and unwind. Each room is tastefully decorated, combining modern amenities with a cozy, home-like feel. The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful night’s sleep, and the bathroom had an amazing tub. My daughter stayed in the tub almost 1.5 hours!
One of the standout features of Cheney Inn is the attention to detail -especially with all the books. As book lovers, we felt the books in our suite were selected especially for us. Imagine our surprise when we found a huge library off of the dining room in the morning! I'm sure "Belle" would have loved this library too. Every corner of the inn reflects a commitment to quality and guest satisfaction. The common areas are perfect for lounging, with comfortable seating and a welcoming ambiance.
Overall, Charles Cheney Inn is a gem. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful retreat or a comfortable base for exploring the area, this inn offers the perfect blend of comfort, cleanliness, and homey charm with breakfast. We can’t...
