A Dry Experience at Dirty Dawgs
There's a certain expectation when one visits a bar - to enjoy a night filled with fun, laughter, and a sense of camaraderie. Unfortunately, my recent visit to Dirty Dawgs was far from this picture, with the establishment falling short in an area that is fundamental to their business - hospitality.
Firstly, it's important to note that this bar charges a heavy $20 cover fee for minors, a fact that left me with raised eyebrows. But what truly spoiled my experience was their policy of not providing free tap water.
When I, the designated driver for the evening, asked for a glass of tap water, I was asked to pay $2. The justification? They don't 'make money on minors' - an explanation that seemed rather odd considering I wasn’t a minor and they already charge minors a cover fee.
In a world where we are trying to promote responsible drinking and the critical role of designated drivers, Dirty Dawgs seems to be swimming against the current. Charging for tap water, a basic commodity, and especially to those ensuring the safe journey home for others, is simply not in good spirit.
This isn't about the $2, it's about a principle, a principle of basic hospitality and respect towards patrons. At Dirty Dawgs, I felt this was sorely lacking.
A bar is not just about the drinks it serves, but the atmosphere it fosters and the respect it shows to its patrons. Sadly, my experience at Dirty Dawgs left me thirsting for a more hospitable...
Read moreEver since management has stopped caring, the quality of this bar has gone down. They no longer follow fire code and pack people in like sardines until you can't hardly move. People stand in huge groups on the dance floor and make it impossible to swing or lone dance, and the DJs and bar backs don't do anything about it because they are just trying to get into college girls' pants. The bathrooms flood every other weekend and the whole bar smells like crap (mainly because they are letting in too many people and backs up their septic system). The dance floor itself is falling apart and they have done nothing to repair it, so the dance space is limited and crappy. The Wednesday night DJ is so focused on flirting and making social media posts that he replays several songs and doesn't turn the volume up until several hours of being able to hear people talk over the music. Basically, if you're coming here to dance at the beginning, middle, or ending of the semester, after a football game, a Wednesday night, the KSU Rodeo weekend, or any night the Hat has a...
Read moreIt's quite an ugly, run-down place. Ledges and doors are torn up, it smells funky, it is usually hot inside even in winter. Humidity in summer is ridiculous. Floor isn't even; there have been floods there but nothing replaced. Stools, tables, pool equipment are also old. Restrooms are disgusting (I recommend going somewhere else for the restroom). The place definitely needs a renovation. Some employees are cool, but some are jerks. Bar/drinks are fine. Music is fine but pretty limited. Every time I go it's usually the same music. Location is good. Easy to walk to and parking is nearby. No street parking or parking lot at Dirty Dawgs. Neighborhood is okay. Would not walk by oneself after...
