On September 18, 2019, we went out to celebrate a wedding anniversary and birthday. We chose Houlihan's because we wanted to try a restaurant we didn't have in Topeka and knew they had good reviews in Kansas City. We arrived just before 5:00 PM and we're seated as soon as they prepared a table for five. After waiting for a considerable amount of time this same person returned to inform us she was going to be our waitress. She took our beverage order and delivered them a few minutes later. At that time we had a menu question and she had to go ask someone for the answer. We finally got our dinner ordered and waited patiently for beverage refills and salads. After forty-some minutes some other people delivered our food and we never received our salads. My dinner arrived with sour cream which I do not like. The waiter said he would return immediately with my potato and butter only. After waiting for another fifteen or twenty minutes I went to find a manager. The on-duty manager was able to get my potato and salad, but by this time the salmon was cold. She also arranged for a beverage refill. The manager made a comment about discounting our bill, but that didn't happen. We finally departed the restaurant just before 7:00 PM. All the tables around us were seated twice while we sat there. Three of our dinners arrived without problems, however, my wife and I were a different story. I sent a complaint email to Houlihan's on September 18th and never received a reply. I sent a follow-up email on Tuesday, September 24 and still haven't...
Read moreThis place is very pretty and simplistic. It has a booming atmosphere, yet quiet enough to easily converse. Most importantly, it was clean. Also, I am physically handicap. From the second my husband rolled me in there, the staff was nice. (Trust me, every place is NOT ADA friendly, and most places are really rude to me for needing more assistance. This restaurant was very comfortable.
Our food was delicious! Our daughter's salmon was really flaky. The mashed potatoes she ordered are my new favorite. Our son-in-law had the western burger and fries, which were delicious. The fries and the mashed potatoes were worth becoming out of ketosis! My husband and I had the scallops with risotto and arugula. It was ridiculously delicious. The risotto was still al dente. Even our soups were delicious. You can't go wrong with any of the soups, but my favorite is their potato soup, which I prefer unloaded.
It was extremely cool that our daughter and our server were old classmates. It was a lot of fun and the perfect place to celebrate their upcoming wedding, and me being out of the hospital again. The true la piece de resistance was Houlihan's Ooey Gooey Butter Cake with vanilla bean ice cream and caramel drizzle. It's really big! Our waitress brought us 4 spoons for what the staff calls "Heaven on Earth," and they are right! It's less than 7 dollars for what my daughter and I believe to be the best dessert we have ever had. There is nothing like it. We will be ordering that to go anytime we want a dessert! Thank you to the amazing staff at Houlihans in...
Read moreArrived to the place, it wasn't bad to begin with. It felt normal. Then I ordered the appetizer party. The mushrooms were ok, not really good without the sauce that came with it, which is fine, and the wings were great, but the spinach dip had like sour cream on the top which tasted sweet and throw off the whole flavor. I also ordered the chicken nachos, and those were sad. There really wasn't much cheese on it and the chicken tasted like the chicken you get from a microwave meal, but dryer. The salsa that came with it tasted like marinara sauce with onions added to it, which made me scared for my main meal. All this time the waiter was coming up to see how the meal tasted, and me not liking being rude just said it was fine. Then I got my salad, which was the house salad, with the thousand island dressing. It came with a small amount, which is no problem. The salad on the other hand was just lettuce with like 4 tomatoes and 4 crotons, with bacon bits and corn. I wish they could have added a couple more tomatoes or crotons, cause it felt like I was eating a head of lettuce. My main meal was was garlic green beans, mash potatoes, and pot roast. The pot roast was the only thing that had seasoning, my mash potatoes would every other bite taste like dirt from a potatoe skin, and the green beans were didn't have any seasonings which not taste like any garlic. Overall the meal was just depressing for the price I had to pay for me...
