Friar Tuck's — Restaurant in Manitowoc

I wafted in on a cold January day and ordered a bowl of French onion soup🍲 and their crab 🦀 croissant. Kudos on the soup🍵 guys! It couldn't get any better if I made it myself! The onions were perfectly caramelized and the broth a deep, rich, beef flavor. Very hearty, as much as a broth can be. It was covered by a nice, thick, generous piece of rye which had oodles of yummy, melted, gooey mozzarella cheese on the top. It is what inferior soup dreams💭 of becoming. This is TOP NOTCH! Now, on to the crab croissant🥐. You get exactly what is described in the menu. No more, no less. But, I must say this sandwich, while tasty as is, could prove to be better with a smearing of mayo or other moistening means. It is very dry. Maybe a crab salad might fair better? (As long as the dressing isn't overdone. I hate seafood/tuna or chicken salads that are dripping dressing.) But I digress. I do think their price is a bit high for imitation crab, ($7.25) and I wouldn't mind paying even a smidge more for real crab. (Crab Louis Salad anyone?) And I do have to add that the service there is above board! My coffee☕ was always kept full and I was attended to continually. The servers are always in good spirits and you can tell behind the masks😷 they are smiling, which makes for a pleasant dining experience. I urge all of you to try Friar Tuck's in Manitowoc. We recently visited Friar Tucks with a party of 20 while in town for a very special, albeit bittersweet occasion—the celebration of our grandfather’s life. This restaurant held a special place in his heart, as he met friends here every week. After his passing, gathering here felt like a way to honor him, and the experience was nothing short of extraordinary.

The staff went above and beyond to take care of us. Despite the late hour and the large group, they accommodated us with such grace and understanding, making sure we were comfortable and well-served the entire time. Their kindness and attentiveness made us feel genuinely welcomed, and it meant so much to us during this emotional time.

And the food—absolutely exceptional. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and served with care. The whole experience was incredibly memorable, not just for the quality of the food but for the warmth and empathy shown by everyone working that night.

A huge thank you to the team here! You helped make an important family gathering so special, and we’re grateful for everything you did to take care of us. We look forward to returning in honor of him and creating even more cherished...

Always good! Great Happy hour. Bartenders and waitresses all super friendly. Cool atmosphere. Without a doubt, one of our favorite places to go for a bite and/or a beverage until last night!! Although our waitress ended up being wonderful the hostess was rude and had attitude. We asked for a booth for which she proceded to the very last booth in the back after passing several empty booths closer to the front. We asked if we could sit in a booth more towards the middle and with a head fling and lots of attitude she sat us where we requested. Before we entered the booth she fired off the specials of the day which we never heard and left abruptly and still with attitude. This is not the first negative experience we've had with this person! But, we won't let her ruin the rest of an enjoyable place to stop. I might add the rest of the staff and bartenders...
