I cannot say how many times I had passed Jay's Elbow Room, all the while wondering about it. So I ended the suspense and checked it out.
Jay's exterior is not misleading as to what you will find inside. This is a dive bar with a frat house vibe.
For example, the walls could probably use a coat of paint, even in the bar's subdued lighting. But no one comes to Jay's for that kind of ambience. I'm certain this detail would not phase the two fellows who just shimmied in front of my table, supporting one another in a brotherly drunken embrace to protect one another from stumbling.
The music pours out of the jukebox like the drinks from the bar--neither seems to have an end as to variety or supply. Some patrons are raucous, most are spirited, and no one comes to Jay's expecting a quiet setting to study for exams.
Jay's menu offers a variety of typical dive bar foods: wings, patty melts, burgers, wraps, hoagies, steak sandwiches, pizza, and club sandwiches. A couple of the unique offerings that I have tried are the fried pickles and cheesesteak club sandwich.
So stop wondering what you'll find inside Jay's! And stop wandering in search of a place to hang out into the early morning hours. Come to Jay's, be sure to check any pretentiousness at the door, and get to know some of the best bartenders and waitresses in South Jersey.

Read moreAfter working all day I just wanted some wings, sometimes you don’t know what your craving until you’re too hungry, and as a wing lover it’s usually the wings. I didn’t want to drive too far as I was tired, I debated between jays elbow and another place. Jays was much closer so that’s what it was. This is definitely a dive bar, the second you walk in you know, and prices usually reflect that, this place could be the definition of a dive bar. The thing that confused me about wings here was that they have small and large, all it means is either the 8 or 16. I thought that it mean the wing size.. I ordered garlic hot. The wings were the definition of medium-large. Every one of them. I’m a medium to small wing guy but whoever cooked these knew what were they doing. I’ve never had the size of these wings cooked so perfect. Every bite was delicious and you can’t say that about a lot of the wings. The sauce was ok, nothing crazy, blue cheese was ok as well, but whoever cooked them deserves a medal. I’ve never enjoyed wings of this size cooked so well. Definitely a good spot to stop by, and the price 11.50 for 8 wings was bit unreal these days and I was filled up. I’ll definitely come back,...
Read moreAfter many years of driving by and even living locally, I finally stopped into Jay's Elbow Room. It was pretty much as I expected. Your typical "hole in the wall bar".....dark, dank, and odd smells. Our waitresses were very friendly, however we did end up waiting about 45 mins to get our food, and the place was not busy at all (we were there on a Wednesday night). Fried pickles started off the night, which is a must at any bar that serves them. They were "spears" as opposed to the standard "chips". A tad bit dry, but still very good!! She ordered Buffalo bites, Fries and Mozzarella Sticks. I had eight of the hot wings. I mistakenly ordered hot, not knowing that I could have had medium. The hot wings were indeed HOT, and there were still two hotter temperatures after that! Three sodas and a bunch of celery sticks later, I finished my wings. They were pretty darn good despite my burning mouth and stomach! Very unique to that bar. So, would I go back to Jay's Elbow Room, more than likely, but it may take a few more years and a couple...
