I've had good experiences with a few sales reps, but that all changed when I went in today to pick up a phone I had pre-ordered, the Galaxy Note 9. After retrieving my phone from the back, the representative started unboxing it without my permission. I understand she CLAIMED to want to "help me activate it", but this is a $1000 item; the person to open it should be the customer who purchased it.
Next, she starts downloading apps to transfer my content from my old phone. Although this is something I planned on doing myself because I am perfectly capable, it just seemed like she was doing it to be courteous. While my content is transferring, she asks me to pay for the charges for the day.... THIS IS WHERE IT GETS GOOD.
She asks me to pay $106.25, even though my phone will be paid in installments over 24 months. I understand that I have to pay for the taxes on the phone, but they can't possibly account for more than ~66 dollars (simple math of sales tax on a $1000 phone).
I kindly asked her to break down the charges for me and she quickly just said they were for taxes and typical fees... So the charges come up on the screen and I see that the $66.25 was for taxes (fine by me), but there was also a $40 charge for "Device Setup".... I asked her if I was being charged $40 to activate my phone, and she said no, I was being charged for the service of transferring my data, because "it's a great service that other places don't offer, they just give you the box and let you walk out the door".
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES was I ever asked if I would like to pay $40 dollars for her to do something that I could have done easily myself, without scratching all over my new screen with inch and a half long fake nails. For this reason I told her I didn't feel that I should pay the charge because I was never informed I would be charged for a service they sneakily started doing without alerting me.
She called someone else who wasn't at the store and told me she could speak to a manager about getting it knocked down to $20 for me. Once again I said absolutely not...you intentionally tried to deceive me and I won't be paying for that. After continuous 'discussion', she finally removed the charge and I only paid the taxes.
Additionally, while my data was transferring, she grabbed my own personal case that I had bought outside the store and started removing all the protective plastic from the phone to put the case on, once again without my permission. I quickly removed both items from her hands so she wouldn't scratch my new screen with her gigantic nails after already starting to remove the plastic (a task that is a highly desirable guilty pleasure for most people).
Lesson: This is not a corporate store, this is just an authorized retailer who will do anything to take your money. Multiple times during the visit she tried do things that she didn't alert me would cost money, and then tried to rush me through the checkout screens later in hopes that I would just swipe my card as I'm sure 9/10 people do. If you don't have any other store to go to, make sure you ask a ton of questions about what they are doing, and BE SURE to review your bill before you pay. Do not pay for anything you...
Read moreDo not go to this store! The staff are horrible, they are knowledgeable enough to maybe help an old lady get her first smart phone, but their lack of patience, respect or honor make it impossible to endorse this store. My wife endured a phone hack. We bought another device from them they ignored our instructions and did their own setup on the new phone which ended up being hacked as well. We spent many nights on the phone with Verizon Tech support & Fraud departments. One such night happened to be the 14th day after the purchase of the last device. Cellular Sales and their store manager was contacted directly by Verizon while we were on the line to explain that had we not needed to be on a call with the Verizon Fraud department that we would've made it to Cellular Sales to return the device in time to honor their arbitrary 14 day return policy. Since the manager and the staff promised they would honor returning the device on the 15th day to Verizon on a recorded call we felt comfortable showing up to simply hand in the device. Verizon waived the contract, we just needed the store to return the defective device. Needless to say when we got there we were "expected" and treated very aggressively amd disrespectful. The manager denied even talking to Verizon even though the call was recorded. This is THE WORST possible 3rd party retailer to buy an overpriced device or accessory, etc from. I wouldnt even recommend entering the store. They believe and act better and smarter than everyone. It's a sickness. Now, we're stuck with a device that has a 2 year contract that we can never use because of Cellular Sales. It's not that we can't afford it. It's the principle of the matter you see. My wife used to manage a different 3rd party retailer and she is very knowledgeable about phones as well as customer service. Cellular Sales is the epitome of how NOT to...
Read moreThis was the worst customer service experience I have ever had. Walked in to purchase a new iPhone on a Sunday & the three staff members stayed seated at their computers & didnât even look up to help me. The two guys working were watching Sunday football & the girl had her ear buds in listening to music- she was gracious enough to take one of them out to help me. She proceeded to activate an iPhone without even asking me what color & when only after it was activated, she opened the box & showed me it was the wrong color & then rolled her eyes when I asked if they had the color I actually wanted in stock. It then took her about an hour to figure out how to return the wrong one to stock & activate the right one... an issue that could have been avoided if she had just asked from the beginning. She checked her phone & texted throughout the entire transaction. When my partner came in later after running next door to run an errand, she said, âugh who is thisâ as if having customers in their store was an annoyance. I have worked in customer service for years & have NEVER experienced anything like how this store was being run in my entire life.
In short? There are plenty of places to buy a phone these days, skip this verizon & go to the Apple Store or any of the other Verizon retail locations...
