I recently dined at Artie's, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. While the food was undeniably delicious the abysmal service overshadowed the positive aspects. I would give the overall experience 2.5/5

Let's start with the positive: the food. It's hard to deny that the dishes at Artie's were well-prepared and flavorful. We ordered the chickpeas, kale Caesar salad, Orecchiette Piccante, Margherita, and Santo pizza. The food was very yummy but definitely a little bit overpriced for what it was. This could have been overlooked if our service experience wasn't as disappointing.

The service at Artie's was nothing short of a disaster. The staff members seemed disinterested, inattentive and displayed a lack of basic courtesy. It was a struggle to capture their attention, and when we finally did, they appeared rushed and unhelpful. We had to ask 3 times for a glass of wine and table bread. In addition, when we ordered our appetizers we were left without plates. We asked multiple waitresses for small plates, bread, and wine but it took forever for them to arrive. It took about 10 minutes for us to get our plates and we just had to sit there (it is difficult for 4 people to split a salad without their own plates). The bread and wine came out with dinner and the small plates only arrived 5 minutes before our entrees were served. Our table was extremely packed and it was very overwhelming. Simple requests took an uncomfortably long time to fulfill, and their lack of apology or concern only added to the frustration.

Another unfortunate aspect was the absence of any dessert offerings. Our waitress never asked us if we wanted any dessert and handed us a check. They did have multiple dessert options so I was surprised that we were rushed out of there without being offered. A delightful dessert can serve as the perfect finale to a meal, leaving a lasting impression. Unfortunately, the lack of dessert options left me feeling unsatisfied and incomplete. It's puzzling that a restaurant would overlook such an essential component of the dining experience.

In conclusion, while the food at Artie's was tasty, the restaurant fell short in several critical areas. The prices, absence of dessert options, and dreadful service significantly impacted the overall experience. We waited about 30 minutes to get our table and I don't think the experience was worth the wait time. It is my hope that Artie's takes these concerns to heart and works towards providing better service to...

We met friends here for dinner tonight. The food was decent but I was so incredibly unimpressed with the service. First, they gave away our table because we came back 2 minutes late. We ended up having to wait for an additional 40 minutes after already having waited for an hour. We were then told they could only accommodate us outside. But oh, there would be heaters. Lies! There was one tiny heater that could only heat one end of the table.

We sit down at the table and immediately notice ashes falling from the sky onto our table and our clothes. When the server finally comes to our table, we ask her what we can do about it and she says simply “there’s nothing I can do about it, this happens at this table.” The attitude alone was atrocious from a service provider. We decided to stay because we had already put an hour and 40 minutes into waiting for this restaurant and it was already 8:30pm.

Throughout the entire meal, ashes continue to fall on us, our table, and our food. Eventually a manager comes out and apologizes for the table. She says that if we need to get our clothes dry cleaned as a result of the ash, they will reimburse us if we bring in the receipt. Ok cool but I live 600 miles away and I’m not coming back just to drop off a receipt. This would have been the appropriate time for her to offer a discount, complimentary dessert, new table but nothing!! When we ask about a discount she simply laughs and walks away.

If they weren’t aware of this problem, that’d be one thing but both the server and manager acknowledged that this is a recurring issue. So fix it!!! Put up a canopy, adjust the umbrellas to actually cover the table, don’t put a table in that spot, put a fan above it to blow the ashes away. In my 10 minutes of assessing the situation, I came up with 5 very viable solutions. I’d like to know why they couldn’t think of a single one of these.

It made for a very uncomfortable meal and I wish we had just walked away when they gave away our table.

I will never return and I would not recommend to...

We've been coming here for a few years now, and this place is a treat for us. Arturo's is a very popular place and they have very limited seating inside, so if you want to dine-in, be prepared to wait 45-60 mins during peak times. The staff here are super nice, we love them all.

Excellent wood fired oven pizzas. Everything here is made from scratch. They try to only use locally sourced foods and it shows in the quality. This isn't your typical 'jersey' pizza, it's more like awesome New York pizza, but stepped up a few notches. Very much worth the wait to eat here, you won't be disappointed

Update: March 2025 We love the new, larger space and they even have a liquor license so they have some great drinks. While it's easier to get a table now, there are still busy times when you'll still end up waiting, the nice thing now is that you can grab a seat at the garage door high top and order a drink while you wait. When the weather is nice they also have a small bar open out in front on the patio, with a few extra chairs and benches.

The inside is very large with concrete floors, walls and ceilings, so the cacophony during prime dinner time can be maddening, it's so different from their original place. I wish they would put some kind of acoustic panels on the ceiling and walls to absorb some of the noise!

Also, if you haven't been here yet, you might want to bring a cushion for your seat because the chairs, and in particular the bench seating on the wall is super hard, flat and uncomfortable. I ended up sitting on my jacket and glad it was still cold out that I had a jacket. I realize they want to turn over the tables and they don't want people to camp out, i get it, but the non high top chairs/benches are...

Artie’s (formerly Arturo’s) gave me a love for pasta and pizza that I never had before. I know that sounds like an exaggeration. My wife, an Italian-food-lover since we started dating, can attest: before we started coming to Artie’s regularly, I’d be lukewarm at best about pizza, and never actually suggest Italian food outside of special events. She maintains to this day that “you’ve been having inferior Italian food” 😂 There’s something about the way Artie’s makes their pies: not exactly thin crust but not soggy, wood-fired by some black magic oven that I hope to one day install in a backyard. I’ve always liked their cinghiale or boar pasta, which nowadays is listed as garganelli or something similar. Yes it’s heavy; but the chewy texture of the pasta plus the savory fullness of the sauce combine to make it always a good move when we’re hungry. Probably my favorite is their wood-fired vegetables. They rotate these regularly but we love the zucchini, broccoli… really there aren’t many wood fired veggies we haven’t enjoyed here. Their new space at the border of Maplewood/Union is much more spacious, with decent parking although on their busy evenings you’ll probably find yourself with a wait. Luckily they have space heaters installed outside, a small outdoors bar in a cute egg-shaped cart, and seating. All in all, I can now say that while I can’t consider myself someone who understands pastas or pizza, I appreciate and like it when it’s from Artie’s.
