I WILL NOT be back. Today was my first time visiting Gus' and from the second we walked in, the experience was bad. There was one lady who nicely greeted us as we walked in to determine whether or not we were eating in or getting food to go, but after that we received no acknowledgment within our next interaction. The woman who rang us out had a nasty attitude from beginning to end...she did not speak, had a dissatisfied look on her face and was downright and utterly rude. A "Welcome" would have been nice, as that is what a new OR regular customer would typically expect. She was not respectful, and as a first-time customer, this is highly unacceptable as my colleague and I come from fields involving customer service.
As she rang out our order, she passed along the receipt for us each to sign, where I'm assuming she expected a tip. For one, her service was bad, she was not pleasant or respectful, and a tip is not required for a carry out order, ESPECIALLY if courteous isn't given to the customer in the first place. She did not say thank you or mention an ETA of when our food would be ready. When she brought out our food, she quickly and with a smirk on her face, handed us our bags with an attitude and did not say a word. No thank you, no have a great day...nothing. But as the next customer walked in the door, she glowed as she loudly spoke as he walked in and offered to take his order. Needless to say, there was a reason she did not receive a tip, and there is a reason why I'm writing this review. I typically am not one to complain, but this review is very deserving. I have never been treated this poorly within customer service, and anywhere I go, I tip NICELY (22%+), but she would never get my money and I surely will NEVER come back.
As for the food...I believe it was definitely underwhelming as my colleague and I have heard about Gus's. I must say that the chicken was very good, but the mac&cheese as well as the baked beans were not the quality we were expecting, as it seemed as though it was similar to the Kraft mac or beans from a can. Again, I reiterate that the chicken was excellent, but the rest of the food was sub-par and overpriced for low quality, partially pre-made food.
In all, I will not be back, as well as my colleague. I feel that more than anything else, the service we received from Gus's was dreadful. The woman that rung out our order, I believe her name was Destiny, was overtly rude and downright disrespectful, as she had a very nasty attitude since we walked in the door. No customer deserves the experience of possible discrimination, as a FIRST TIME customer at that, that we received at Gus's. We hope that the owner will reconsider who is the face of their...
Read moreMy experience with Gus's Fried Chicken was nothing to brag about. Nothing about this place is (or should be) world famous. The chicken breasts were tasty (how could you ruin fried chicken) but not exceptional; they were crispy but the breading was light and not particularly crunchy. I would have preferred a batter with more to it.
The chicken tenders, which had the same breading, were pretty dry and rough to eat without smothering them in bbq. I could see they have a basket of pre fried tenders they fry again when they're ordered. This resulted in a pretty dry outer coating which was devoid of any real flavor or spice.
For the price I would have expected something above and beyond Popeyes or KFC but this was far below either of those restaurants, and after having eaten at Hatti B's in Nashville I can tell you this place would be out of business in a month if they tried to open one down there. $25 for 2 breasts, a wing, 3 tenders, and 4 smallish sides. Not crazy expensive but there's no meal with 5 or 6 pieces like I would have hoped.
If you want GOOD fried chicken go to Porters down the street (on Big Bend) or if you're more of a tenders person like myself you'd save money and get WAY more flavor going to Popeyes (I can't believe I'm saying that, I'm really not a big Popeyes fan). After reading all the 5 star reviews for this restaurant I can only conclude those people do not know good...
Read moreMy daughters and I stopped here this past weekend due to my youngest wanting macaroni. We sat in to dine. Our waiter was very upbeat and friendly. The place appeared clean. When our waiter came to take our order I asked if I could get potato salad with my catfish instead of the fries shown on the board for same price. He said of course no problem. He then asked what was my 2nd side. I said oh, I get two sides I thought the catfish and fries only gets 1. He said no, you get 2. So I ordered my 2nd side and the rest of our meals. The bill comes and it’s 16 for my order instead of the 12.10 the board shows. I asked our waiter about the difference in price. He gave me a grimace and said oh that’s the sandwich I thought you wanted the plate. He says oh no worries I’ll take care of that for you. He goes to the register and I go back to my seat. I hear him tell someone no don’t make that I’m fixing (inaudible) A lady who works there says oh you just giving away my money. He says I feel like being nice today. She says something and he chuckles. He brings my receipt back. He has replaced the $16 meal with the $12.10 one yet he has also added a hush puppieb1.25 and up charge fee of .55 as well as they charged .50 for an addl tarter sauce which comes in the small 1oz containers I believe and you only get 1 for 3 pieces of fish. It’s not the amount as much as the principle. ...
