Penzeys Spices — Local services in Maplewood

We recently (July 17, 2015) visited a Penzey’s store in Missouri (zip code 63143). In the past they have been very accommodating and considerate about honoring coupons given that they are the only one of these stores in a very large area. On this visit, we entered the store where three employees were huddled together barely attentive to the fact that we walked in. There were no other customers in the store. When I approached the group one of them asked if they could help so I presented a coupon (for a coffee mug) and was told that it expired and they no longer honor them. Given the distance we had to travel to visit the store this was disappointing news. We shopped for other items and when we were ready to check out we again had to get the attention of an employee. At this point I asked if they could check to see if we were eligible for any current coupons and was told they no longer do that either. In past visits we have received much better attention and accommodating service even in high volumes of customers. For those who haven't yet taken advantage of the blessed fact that we have a Penzey's brick-and-mortar store in the St. Louis metro, I recommend it. It's in Maplewood on Manchester, across from Schnucks. They have all of the spices and in all imaginable forms. I took advantage of some specials today, got a few things for myself, but also some gift boxes and items for gift baskets. All of the spices are top quality and freshly packaged. Some particular favorites are: smoked Spanish paprika, cracked Spanish rosemary, Turkish bay laurel, green peppercorns (essential for Hunter's Sauce!), Tung Hing Chinese cinnamon (so bright, sharp, and intense), leaf savory, and of their many creative seasoning blends and seasoning solutions, the Fox Point (eggs, potatoes, veggies, breads, it is SO versatile, and my spouse likes it so much, threats of doing lines of it have been made!). I had a great experience with curbside pickup at Penzeys in Maplewood. They've really got it figured out. I shopped on their very user-friendly website, identified Maplewood as the store where I would pick up, and paid online. Shortly thereafter, I got a call from the Maplewood store to schedule my pick-up time. They bagged my order and left it in a crate outside their front door for me to pick up. It was completely safe and contact-free. I'm thrilled that I can continue to easily purchase my favorite spices. I am now stocked up on everything I need for the holiday season.
