Terrible food. Overpriced drinks. Slow service. Go elsewhere.
New to Tucson, this was our first foray into trying to find some mexican food that was like the stuff we got in Santa Cruz at the local taqueria. Simple, flavorful, basic food.
I ordered a taco salad, since I wasn't all that hungry. I don't have high expectations for any taco salad. I would just like it to have some crisp veggies and some seasoned meat, maybe some beans and a little cheese. Well, for $10.99, you get a plain salad, and then for $1.99 more you can have meat on it. Huh? Usually, that's just part of the salad. Anyway. The chicken on mine was bland, boiled and total devoid of any flavor. The taco shell itself collapsed when I started eating the salad, looking like a taco salad explosion on my plate. Lots of wet iceberg lettuce on top of a small random assortment of a few kidney beans, a little shredded cheese, and some diced carrots. A few bites were all it took to know that I was not going to be eating this entree.
My husband ordered something from the combo platter area that was beef chunks (some of which he said tasted like liver) on a couple of corn tortillas, accompanied by a shallow dish of what sort of looked like flan, but was actually some congealed, formerly melted cheese that he had to carve into little chunks to eat. Strange.
Our cadillac margaritas were only average, definitely tasted like they had sour mix or nasty Rose's lime juice in them, and both of us have splitting headaches this morning from them. At $10 each, I was expecting something a little higher quality.
The waittress saw that I was a little dismayed at my exploded salad and offered to get me something else, which I politely declined based on my husband's platter and the lousy margaritas. We were very surprised to find that the dish stayed on our check, even though I told her right away it was not good. I don't often find food that I just can't plain eat somewhere, but if I recall, most places try to do good by at least not charging for it.
I don't even care if this was "authentic" anything or not - I just wanted a decent meal of tasty food and we did not have that here. ...
Read moreOrdered online, went to pick it up and was a few minutes early. Didn’t mind waiting, place seemed clean and well staffed. After about twenty minutes of being ignored the bartender finally came over and asked if I had been helped. I told him i was waiting for a take out order. Waited another 15 minutes trying hard to get the hostesses attention, which should have been easy as she only had one other customer she was working on. I finally had to use a more assertive tone than I would normally use to express my frustration with the situation. She walked off to the kitchen. When the hostess came back I was ignored. I was trying to be considerate as she was already at the register with the manager while they were trying to straighten out his order. I would like to have cut the hostess some slack as it must be a very difficult job trying to keep everyone happy. But again she wouldn’t make eye contact with me. A couple minutes later the head waiter (I assume) came over to me and asked if I was being helped. I showed him my order/confirmation#. He came back about five minutes later with my order. I’m thinking maybe all these people were just having a bad day, he thanked me and thank you for checking on my order and giving me the food I ordered. I thought we’ll who hasn’t had a bad day at work. So no big deal life goes on. Till I got back to to our room to enjoy our food. My wife’s taco salad was cold by then (expected) but but had three of the the ingredients she ordered not to be on it we’re on it. My food was also wrong and most sadly just tasted underwhelming (bland). I’m 65 years old and have never done a review on a restaurant in my entire life, I would like to have a chance to try this place again but am not from Tucson, so that’s doubtful. This restaurant looked pretty great on the website, but our one burrito and one chicken taco salad really fell short of our expectations. Wrong food, cold food, no utensils. But hey it’s 2024 what can you expect for $46.57 I really hope everyone else’s experience is great, it seemed like this could be a Great place to eat!! Maybe I just caught them...
Read moreTonight I went to La Parilla Suiza to pick up an order. Upon arrival, the first thing that I noticed was that there was a line going out of the door, and the lobby was packed, but there was no one at the front helping people (the restruant was not very busy, other than the lobby). I waited for about ten minutes before eventually flagging an older man down to let him know that I was just trying to pick up an order. He curtly snapped at me that he knew, and that they were working on it. I don't know how he would've know that, considering that no one had greeted me in that time, or asked me if I needed help. I waited about ten more minutes before waving down another employee and asking him if he knew how much longer the food would be. Mind you, at this point it was supposed to be ready 20-25 minutes ago. He tells me that he just put it in the computer (!!!), but that it should only be about ten more minutes. He then rubbed my shoulder. This literally sent chills up my spine. I understand that he may not have had bad intentions, but employees should know better. About fifteen minutes later, another employee came out of the kitchen. He went over to the bar, and began pointing at me while he talked to the bartender. This furthered my discomfort. After talking about me for a few minutes, he walked over and informed me that they had just now started on the food, and it would probably be at least another 15-20 minutes. He said he really couldn't guarantee anything. I left without the food.
I think it's important to note that in the time I spent there, I was not the only displeased customer. Two other couples walked out before even being greeted. Another couple, who entered right after me informed the staff that they had made a reservation, only to be met with scoffs and disbelief. They were eventually escorted to a table, fifteen minutes after the supposed...
