I have been coming down to Marathon for years and finally made a stop. What the heck took me so long!?! Just stopped for Beer, Chowder, and Conch Fritters.
The Clam Chowder was outstanding!! I get that virtually everywhere I go. This was easily one of the best. It was was not as rich and thick as some, which I generally prefer. But, it was packed with so much flavor. Lots of clam and just an excellent Chowder. It was so so good. Great flavor. Our waitress mentioned she does a mixture of Conch Chowder and Clam Chowder. At first glance seems like a clash of clans. It was shockingly good. The Conch Chowder is also excellent. If it's your first visit and you can only get 1, then get Clam Chowder. Otherwise, get a bowl of each. They are both worth appreciating separately. Ask for a small bowl and try the combination it is a special treat.
The Conch Fritters actually have Conch. I know that should be obvious, but anyone who enjoys conch fritters knows that most places just serve fritters which clearly have no Conch. These clearly do. The were also excellent. The roulamade dipping sauce was a perfect pairing. Fried to perfection. Can't go wrong with these.
For the beer they have an option of Taster cups. Since they have 40+ craft beers across the spectrum this is a great option to mix and match or nab a full one.
I wish I had ordered more there was a big group that ordered a variety of dished and they all seemed to be enjoying each and were sharing and trying each others.
This place was featured on Guy Fieri 3D. Watching how they make the chicken shows how they care about flavor. They are not slopping crap on the plate. You are getting well thought out full flavored food.
I will definitely be back!
Made it back... Had the cheese burger n parafries. Dang! Bunless burger over fries topped with beer cheese. It's huge totally shareable or a food coma which ever you prefer. Had the Wings as well today. There are only 6 wings. Dry rub is great. Wing sauce is great. And homemade Blue cheese. The table next to us ordered some BBQ and they could not stop talking about how good it was. They also got the poutine fries which looked insane. They...

Anyway, we had a tremendously nice experience at Herbie’s. The bartender greeted us as we walked in the front door and was chatting with us about drinks before we even sat down.
They have a good beer selection and the fresh brewed iced tea was fantastic. It seems they don’t carry the usual conglomerate beers so if you’re looking for a Coors Light or a Bud Light Ice, you can forget about it.
The food was great. We started with fresh-cut fries and they were outstanding. We tried the New England clam chowder (A), conch fritters with a spicy mayo dip (A+), crab cakes (B+) and a burger (B+). I ordered the burger medium and it was served gray all the way through. I’d call it medium well. The meat was of high quality but it was a little bland. Could have used some seasoning. The tomato was outstanding. I don’t know where they found a tomato like that in February.
We had house-made key lime pie for desert. It was really good but was a little thin on the graham cracker crust. The top of the pie had a layer of meringue that was browned on top. It was nice a tart. Excellent.
With a generous tip, we were over $90 for two people for a big lunch. I thought it was worth that.
It’s clear that the owners care about details. They had those little wet wipes at each table. The bathrooms were clean and stocked with feminine products and even a basket of condoms! It’s nice to visit a place where the people running the place clearly care about how they’re perceived by discerning customers.
Thank you, Herbie’s!...
Read moreWent there on 5/31/2024 was highly recommended to us soon as we got to town so we went to check it out. The girls that was staffed was super friendly! The food was ok can’t say it was any better like it wasn’t horrible. I have the Asian tacos I asked for no wasabi sauce and somehow they managed to put it on there anyway however they made an attempt to scrape it off but it’s wasabi it was still on there! So u know I was on fire eating it! I hate wasabi. And my partner had shrimp tacos and asked for no onion and again there was onions added and a poor attempt to remove them! Had beans and rice as a side Idk if they was outta beans and rice or that stingy but the rice was maybe a quarter of a cup if lucky and the black beans was maybe a tablespoon and that’s saying a lot! I ordered a side of pickled vegetables thinking it was an actual side! Nope it came out it was the size of a condiment cup! 5$!!!! The ciders was great I love how you get to try small sizes of 4oz for like 3$ super cool idea!
Getting ready to leave we had to order dessert to go! Supposedly everything there is made from scratch so we ordered a red velvet bunt cake for 10$ to go! They bring out this dessert box big sized box to a dessert we left with it. Get to where we was going and went to enjoy dessert to find this tiny little bunt cake smaller than a cornbread muffin! I really really hope it wasn’t homemade cause it tasted like a frozen imported cake. It was very mushy like it was wet….. its flavor was extremely bad. Definitely didn’t take any love there!
I’d rate the food...
