Overpriced for a Glorified McDonalds: This place attempts to market itself as a 1970's fast food chain, but I can tell you it is far similar to a Greyhound Bus Station. First off, food is mediocre. The portions (as seen in the pic) are tiny with minimal flavor. The small fries are $7 which is absurd. If you are going to charge this much for food, at least make it taste good! Similar to a Greyhound Bus station, there is constant loud announcements of people's orders. This is fine, but if you are already giving them your phone # with your order on it, they should just text you when it is ready. Anyway, when your FOOD is ready, you walk up to the window and get it. However, when you get a drink, some obnoxious female asian girl came out and kept screaming people's drink orders. Maybe she was on the spectrum and could not read social cues? Mind you this was at 3 PM when it was not crowded... she kept coming up to our table and other guests asking if we had order #x or if we had ordered Xdrink.. long after we had finished eating. It was almost harassment after the 4th-5th time of being interrupted. Christ, more training is clearly needed. Lastly, the owner clearly has OCD / is a control-freak. There are signs everywhere telling people what not to do (again like a bus station) Every 3 feet there is a sign that says "do not sit on the table" or "restrooms are for current customers only" or even signs on the utensil dispensers telling parents to watch their kids. I am sure the owner is a real great boss to his employees and surely is not a micro-manager! Anyways, in other reviews, when I have seen others complain about price, the owner keeps citing rising costs, but I can tell you the economy is nowhere near bad enough to charge $7 for fries. Potatoes are cheap. Avoid this place, it is nothing more than the Greyhound Bus...
Read moreTitle: $28 for Waffles and Ice Cream?! Insulting.
I just paid $28 for what should’ve been a simple treat — waffles and ice cream — at Margate Dairy Bar, and I’m honestly stunned. Of course, the place is spotless but that does not make up for this travesty!
A waffle with ONE topping and whipped cream is $14.99, but get this — ice cream is NOT included. That’s extra. You then have to order the "whole with Ice Cream Sundae." WHAT?? By the time you add this, you’re close to thirty bucks for what’s essentially a basic dessert on a paper plate.
To make it worse, I ordered the chocolate peanut butter, which used to be the best I’d ever had — rich, creamy, and loaded with peanut butter swirls. But for the second time now, I tasted no peanut butter. Just plain chocolate.
Margate Dairy Bar used to be a summer staple for this local bunch, but the prices are outrageous, and the quality is slipping. It honestly feels like they’re cashing in on loyal customers and out-of-towners who don’t check the prices until it’s too late. Shame on you.
Heads up: double-check what you’re actually getting for the price — or skip it altogether. I won’t be back.
NOTE TO OWNER
Wow. What a response. Again shame on you. Not great customer service and clearly I am not the only person to make these observations.
The prices are so not clearly posted for your waffle option. I suggest you include “ICE CREAM NOT INCLUDED.” Customers need to know true price before ordering for one thing.
And yes, I am “indeed” a local and have been for 30 years. I’ve posted several good reviews when warranted being a local here and in Philadelphia. Don’t be so smug (another much repeated comment about you). Be kind and fair to your fellow locals in Margate and the visitors who make you wealthy. It’s the right...
Read moreCame here earlier today with my family and friends . 4 adults 4 kids for the first time off a recommendation and I’m glad I did what a wonderful gem in Margate. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the friendly staff who were polite friendly and assisted and answered all questions. We were able to get a table quickly and have a great lunch. We started out with double bacon cheeseburgers and kids had nuggets n fries. The burgers were fantastic grilled to perfection tasty n juicy big but not overwhelming well worth the cost the kids loved their meals I tried their fries which were fantastic I also had a basket of onion rings which were cooked perfect light crispy and full of taste. With my food I had lemonade which to me brought back memories of the fresh squeezed kind you find on the boardwalk. Was perfect all the food was. Great service the place was very clean. And an overall great atmosphere n vibe. After lunch we all treated ourselves to some ice cream. They have a huge selection and to my delight I’m lactose intolerant and they had many non dairy options. I went with a banana split with non dairy cookie doe ice cream! It was fantastic the kids loved all of their treats. If your looking for a great burger n some fantastic ice cream. You won’t be disappointed here. They did not ask for a review but I believe when you find great service n fantastic food. It’s the least you can do ! Enjoy your sweet treat. ! I will absolutely be returning customer thanks for great lunch special treats and another great memory with family n my...
