My friend and I were excited to visit your restaurant. From the beginning, the experience was promising. Our waitress was warm, kind, and attentive. We enjoyed the food, and the overall atmosphere had a relaxed vibe that we both appreciated.
Unfortunately, our experience took a disappointing turn toward the end of our visit. As we exited our table to leave, my friend stood first, and I followed closely behind her. At that exact moment, a different waitress, Chantel, was walking past. I was unaware she was behind me and accidentally stepped into her path. The waitress Chantel walked around towards the front of me and said in a very nasty/rude tone, "Excuse me," then rolled her eyes.
Feeling taken aback, I stopped her and politely asked if the manager was available. She responded, “Why do you need a manager?” I explained to her that I hadn’t realized she was behind me, I apologized for accidentally stepping in her path and expressed that her response was rude and unnecessary. Unfortunately, instead of acknowledging the concern, she became defensive, insisted she hadn’t spoken to me in that way, and proceeded to ignite a “back and forth.” The waitress, Chantel, then says to me she “doesn’t have to be kind towards me because she wasn’t serving my table.” My response to her was that, as someone working in a service environment, professionalism is important, especially in a setting where guests are paying for both food and hospitality. What she said was so disgusting and hateful. Why have that type of attitude?!
When I asked to speak with a manager again, her response was dismissive and inappropriate. She ultimately agreed to get the manager and said, “Excuse me, ma'am” with another eye roll and more attitude. Even as she relayed her version of events to the manager, her tone and demeanor remained unpleasant and disrespectful. I expressed my concerns to the manager, Yolan (spelling may be incorrect), however, she did not seem to genuinely care so I asked to speak with the owner, but she said he wasn’t there, when in actuality, he was the man standing next to her while she was speaking to me! After he walks away, she then says I could give you a card, and you can email him. I doubt the incident or the waitress’s behavior will be addressed! The waitress Chantel was so unprofessional, nasty, and had a very ugly attitude!
I want to emphasize that I wholeheartedly believe in supporting Black-owned businesses and uplifting establishments in the community. However, it is difficult to continue doing so when experiences like this occur, especially when they involve individuals who are directly responsible for serving the customers. My friend and I had planned to return, and we were looking forward to doing so. Sadly, after this experience, we’ve decided we will not be returning, and I will also be advising others in my network not to visit as well.
You never truly know what someone may be going through or carrying in their life, so treating others unkindly can deeply affect them and potentially break their spirit. As someone who does meaningful work with other community partners across the state of Georgia, I firmly believe that kindness, compassion, and respect should be foundational values, especially in any space centered on service. When individuals bring negative energy or hostility into those spaces, it creates barriers and diminishes the quality of the experience for everyone. If someone struggles to extend basic decency to others, it may be worth reconsidering whether a role in customer service is the right fit. I hope this feedback is taken seriously and constructively; the waitress, Chantel, should also be...
Read moreInitially I didn’t want to write a review but found it necessary to do so. First, I will start with parking. Parking was difficult for a Sunday afternoon brunch. After stalking exiting patrons, I was able to secure a parking spot.
I made a reservation for three people was able to check in with a girl that I initially thought was the hostess but was waitstaff. Upon my observation, there didn’t appear to be any hostess and all the waitstaff were serving a dual role as host/hostess and as well as waitstaff. While we waited, I witnessed an argument with two waitstaff and the hostess/waitstaff step in to end the issue. That should have been my first sign. It didn’t appear to be any one person running the actual restaurant. I saw two people dressed in casual clothing go behind the bar and speak with staff and one of those persons sat at the bar briefly with his laptop but no one was actually “managing” the restaurant. It was pure chaos. About 45 minutes after check in and my actual reservation, we were finally seated. We received water and ordered our food. Another 45 minutes went by and I requested cornbread to hold us over. We received three pieces of heat lamp warm hard cornbread, no butter, no small plates and no silverware. I asked for silverware and plates and was given plastic ware and no plates. We ate our cornbread on the napkin that was provided in the plastic ware package.
Another 15-20 minutes, our food arrived. Guess what, it was cold. My friend’s catfish was hot which was the only thing hot between the three of us. I ordered a side of grits that arrived about 10 minutes later and they were cold and nasty. The waitress came to check in and ask if we liked them and I was honest and she said something happened in the kitchen.
I am not sure how long this restaurant has been in business but they are not ready for Atlanta brunch scene. They need to be more organized and have more people. The food has to be on point. Not sure I would try this place again. I do hope it...
Read moreHighly DISAAPOINTED & DO NOT RECOMMEND. I like to go around and support small businesses by leaving reviews and using my social media platform to draw positive attention to small businesses. I visited Phyllis last Thursday around one to give a food review. When I arrived, it was about 6 polices outside with the owner and a young lady who was a former employee stating she didn't receive her final check and money was owed to her. The lady was attempting to show proof while the owner was very dismissive. Seems that the cops were very calm and explained to the young lady proper legal steps to take being that the owner wasn't trying to be receptive. Now, this place seems to have some major unprofessionalism going on because during this time of observation a lady walked out that worked for this business and stated "she quit and that this happens all the time" another employee walked out mins later taking a smoke break and stated it's always drama and cops being called and there have been many allegations of the owner keeping employees hard earned money. Three employees in one moment there is definitely something wrong here.
Now listen, I don't like drama and I love a good eat and to leave a nice review when deserved. There needs to be a reminder that yes this is a business, but EMPLOYEES make the business run smoothly and they should be treated well!It only takes one bad person to run down a business and that includes an owner.
I do not condone mistreatment of employees and will not give my hardworking money to such a business....AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU DON'T EITHER! Employees matters and bosses need to...
