Went to Sugar Cakes for breakfast. The french toast and white chocolate mocha were delicious. However, i ordered scrambled eggs with cheese that came out with no cheese. I sent the eggs back and the waiter soon returned with a few pieces of shredded cheese sprinkled on top. I asked him to have the eggs recooked. He came back maybe 5 minutes later with new eggs that looked like they had just recooked the old eggs. Needless to say I ate some of the eggs and then signaled for the waiter to take them away with the empty plates because I had already eaten the rest of my food. When paying my bill, I asked for an adjustments on the eggs. The manager told me the owner said she could not make an adjustment. The owner then came over and began to rudely tell me she wasn't making an adjustment because they made them 3 times, which they had not. I said no problem, i will pay cash for the amount that was fair but needed to go to the atm, which was next door. The owner told me I couldn't leave, which triggered me to leave in search of the atm immediately. The husband ran out the door behind me yelling that i needed to pay, which I said I am. Im going to the atm. He said it doesn't work, which was correct. I then returned to pay and told them I would just dispute the cost of the eggs. At that time, the husband came over yelling and pointing his finger in my face and threatening me not to come back or write a negative review. So.... here's my negative review. Food was good. Wait staff was great. Owners SUCK, in my...

Update: 6/28/2019 - So, I have added a couple of stars from my original 2 star rating because the last few times I have visited I have had a much more pleasant experience and yes, my poached eggs were poached medium (not cooked eggs to order was a big negative in my original post). I think the trick to this place is to not go on the weekends - when going during the week when they are not too busy.

This place is so inconsistent! The first time I went it was amazing, but that is where it stopped. When I get the crab cake benedict and the crab cakes are awesome, but sometimes they are tiny and sometime they are huge. Sometimes the coffee is really burnt and sometimes it is amazing. The kitchen staff's inability to make eggs that are anything but well done is also irritating - the few times I have gone I ask for over medium fried/poached and no matter what they come out well done. Today I tried the shrimp and grits because they ran out of crab cakes and the peppers were raw, the bacon was chewy and the grits were bland.

Their menu items seem like they would be amazing, but the inconsistency of how it is prepared makes me hesitant to go back and on top of that it might take 5 or 20 minutes for a server to say...

Sugar Cakes is located at the Marietta Square. It was my first visit. It is a cozy spot with excellent food and service. It is clean.

Staff. They get a thumbs up for patience and the ability to treat diners efficiently and with a smile. Patience? I came to meet a friend whom I hadn't seen in over 6 years. We were so immersed in reacquainting ourselves we never looked at the menu until perhaps the fourth time our server came over! Our server wasn't annoyed or bothered. No pressure.

Knowledge of offerings; have you ever gone someplace and asked for menu suggestions and they don't have a clue? Not here. When I asked, our server immediately offered suggestions.

Food; breakfast and lunch items are offered. All sounded so good. It was hard to select. I wanted a salad. Our server had suggested their chicken salad on croissant. So I had salad with a generous amount of chicken salad. To be honest, I did not have high hope for the chicken salad but boy was I wrong!! The chicken salad was Delicious!! Not too dry or too wet. Just the right amount of seasoning. I could eat it all day!

Ok, so this humongous review is done. Oops! Almost. I forgot that there are luscious looking desserts there too. I was too full to...

My wife and kids came here for lunch after church on Easter (He is Risen!). Our server was friendly and checked on us throughout the meal. My wife and youngest both ordered the the Smoked Salmon Benedict with the fruit side. I got the Quiche Lorraine with Tomato Bisque, and my son got the Chocolate Banana Crepe. The Soup was very creamy, definitely a good side for the quiche. The quiche itself was good but not great; I couldn’t put my finger on what was missing, though; perhaps not enough onion. I tried a but if my wife’s Salmon Benedict, but it tasted a bit too fishy to me. My son and daughter had no complaints about the Caramel Macchiato they ordered, nor the Chocolate Banana Crepe- all the food was gone by the end of the meal. (I guess the portions could have been a bit bigger…) Sugar Cakes is located on the north side of the Marietta Square. As always, parking is completely dependent on what else is happening at the Square. Two Smoked Salmon Benedicts, one Quiche Lorraine with Tomato Bisque soup, one Chocolate Banana Crepe, two small Caramel Macchiato, $78.88 before tip.

Went here for brunch on a Sunday at around 11:30. It actually wasn’t too crowded when we got there, probably because it was earlier and raining at the time. It got busier at around 12. We sat at a duo table which was really small but most of their tables are square and larger. Service was fine, we didn’t get checked up on once after we ordered though but it was no biggie. I ordered the waffles that came with a side of bacon, fruit, and syrup. In the picture you’ll see whipped cream but it doesn’t come with the waffles, I asked for it. The waffles themselves were AMAZING and soooo soft. My friend ordered a panini sandwich and fries that she thought was great. Each person was about 15-17 dollars, not the most expensive but also not the cheapest considering the portions. However I would definitely come back here and the food was great!

I visited today after brunch and ordered a slice of Red Velvet cake to go. The cashier was very nice. The restaurant was packed and the food looked good. I can only review the cake today since that's all I ordered. It was the most mediocre slice of cake I've had in years. The cake had no red velvet flavor. It had the taste and consistency of a cake that was made days ago and not stored correctly. It was dry. The icing was flavorless. I paid around $13.00 for two slices. My husband didn't care for it and I didn't even finish my slice. To put it in perspective, I had a Red Velvet cake from Walmart recently. It was not good, but still better than this. I will still go back and try the food since it looked tasty and well-presented.
