Perkins American Food Co. — Restaurant in Marion

The service was terrible. As a restaurant manager I was shocked at Cheryl's poor customer service and would have immediately taken over her table. I am in town for 2 days visiting my mother and sister and her family, they said Perkins was a great place to eat. This server rushed so much taking our order that she completely missed one niece's entire plate and another's side of macaroni and cheese. When asked about it she went over the receipt and argued that we didn't order it. She said she would put the order in for her burger plate AFTER she took another table's order, arguing with us the whole time she was taking the other table's order. She finally puts her order in and then comes back to argue some more. My nephew, who is 5, was understanding and shared his macaroni and cheese with his 4 year old sister because she never got hers. Cheryl said, if I didn't get her macaroni and cheese then how does she have some? OMG. I told her because he gave her his! I literally had to tell the woman to stop arguing with us. Thankfully the manager in training came and took care of the situation for us. My mother says she goes here all the time and has never had an issue like this. Hopefully Cheryl gets some better customer...

We love Perkins and are sadly missing the Columbus/Hilliard location now that it is closed. Omelets have been our favorite here for decades. The omelets here were not that good though. The granny omelet used to be HUGE and had shredded cheese on top These were significantly smaller and had cheese sauce poured over the top. The sauce was not good...tasted like nacho sauce. They gave tiny portions of hashbrowns, but they were cooked good and the pancakes were good. Our waitress was great until the end. A guy sat down that she knew and she decided to hang out with him for what seemed like forever instead of tending to her customers. We were done and just wanting our check but the tables behind us where wanting to order and seemed as agitated as we did that she wasn't working. A young guy sat us and also checked us out. He was also friendly. Grabbed an iced sugar cookie on the way out. Tasted nothing like a traditional white/yellow sugar cookie. It was brown and had big sugar pieces poured over the icing (that wasn't cookie icing...was cake type icing and all got stuck to the bag). We drove up here from Delaware just to eat here. Probably won't...

My daughter and I came here on a Monday because they are usually pretty busy most evenings, but they weren't when we arrived. We were seated right away and our service was very fast and friendly. The atmosphere is very clean and comfortable. You can tell this is a family owned and operated business. I ordered fish and shrimp and pickle chips for my daughter and I. The food came out very quickly and was hot and fresh. I loved my breaded shrimp especially. The breaded cod fillets were a bit lacking for the price. My daughter ordered the sweet and sour chicken salad. She didn't really care for it. It had too many peppers, not enough lettuce and other things and there was almost no chicken on the salad. Definitely not a good value. We ordered desert to go. My daughter got a brownie which she loved. I got a slice of caramel apple pie. It was very good, but again the serving was very small. Far too small for the $4 pricetag. So overall the service and atmosphere was great, but the value was not. We'll be back, but probably not too often...
