We came here on the recommendation of a local and the 4.7 rating we saw online. So disappointed! The best choice for us was my husbands hamburger steak smothered in onions, which he enjoyed. His father had a bowl of gumbo which had alot of small shrimp and oysters in it but was very "thin" and watery. Not a bad flavor but nothing to write home about.
My cheeseburger poboy was a total disaster. Although it was a homemade patty, it was not even a half inch thick and had little flavor. It was no poboy - it was not on French bread, but instead appeared to be a large hamburger bun cut in half! And my $10.95 poboy was a single burger with a piece of American cheese cut in two. No side came with it. What I can't understand is how the menu offers a Large Hamburger for $5.95 and $1.00 extra for cheese. In reality, I had a Large Cheeseburger cut in half and placed on my plate end to end! The artistic arrangement was certainly not worth the extra money. The is much better food to be found...
Read moreI didn’t have high hopes going in, as I had read other reviews about bad experiences, but I wanted to give it a try for myself. The restaurant was very clean and modernized, and we were seated quickly, which was a good start.
Drinks came fast, but my sweet tea tasted sour and old, so I had to switch to water. At $3.49 per drink, it felt overpriced. For appetizers, they’re also on the pricey side, but the fried pickles were pretty good as you will get plenty and most bang for your buck.
Unfortunately, the biggest issue was that our food came out at different times. By the time my friends finished eating, I was just getting my meal. Worse, some of our food was cold, which should never happen.
As I was leaving, I overheard another couple complaining about their food being cold too. Overall, not a great experience and definitely too pricey for what ended up being a mediocre...
Read moreI used to look forward to coming into town for work and making a stop at Nanny’s—it felt like coming home. The restaurant once proudly showcased the heart of Southern Louisiana culture, with a ready-to-serve line full of comforting, soulful dishes that tasted like something your own grandmother might be cooking in the back.
Unfortunately, my visit today was deeply disappointing. I learned Nanny’s is now under new ownership, and sadly, everything has changed—and not for the better. What was once authentic Southern home cooking has been replaced with generic bar food I could find at countless places around Lafayette.
It breaks my heart to say this, but the charm, character, and flavor that made Nanny’s special are gone. I truly hope things turn around, but as it stands, I don’t see the new version of Nanny’s...
