DiSantillo's Artisan Sandwiches & Eatery — Restaurant in Marlboro Township

I was blown away by my dining experience at DiSantillo’s. This is a casual eatery with a wide variety of menu items. I was extremely impressed with their abilities to make every item fresh and delicious. We started off with burrata over sliced tomatoes with a balsamic glaze. Perfect summer appetizer which was light, fresh, and the burrata was creamy and wonderful. You can never go wrong with burrata. We also tried the cheesesteak eggrolls which were a fun appetizer to try. They were crispy and cheesy and delightful and came with a great cheese dip. I had the ‘“pesty chicken sandwich” which was a phenomenal sandwich. I loved that it was served with stracciatella cheese! The pesto which tasted fresh was a wonderful compliment to the chicken sandwich. My friend had the drunken chicken sandwich and while I didn’t try it myself, she was a big fan of the vodka and pesto combination with the chicken cutlet. Both of these are my ideal sandwiches and I will definitely order them for my next visit. We also tried the full rack of bbq ribs. I was hesitant ordering this at a sandwich shop but wound up being so astonished that they could make a phenomenal bbq rib. The sauce was zesty and smoky and the meat was falling off the bone. Totally droolworthy! We ended the night with chocolate lava cakes which were super tempting and beyond irresistible. The melty chocolate was heavenly and absolutely rich. We also tried the hazelnut gelato which was simply perfection. It was smooth and silky and creamy and a wonderful ending to a great meal. The staff was excellent and super attentive and prompt. Stay clear of this place if you don't want to be ripped off. I ordered 2 sandwiches for myself and my son and wasn't minding the amount to pay from listed menu as it looked very appetizing.My son saw that they had Manhattan Special so he grabbed 2 and put them on the counter. As the sandwiches were being made the kid at the register added them to the tab. I saw the bill came up over $9.00 more to over $45.00.I asked him if he made a mistake. He said no that they are $4.50 each. I decided to put them back and knew right away that that this place is taking advantage of their customers. They shouldn't be no more than $3.25 to $3.50 each. Once we got the sandwiches we sat and ate at a table. There was about 3 slices of Prosciutto and barely any Mozzarella on a rather stale doughy Schiacciata Bread. The Pat LaFrieda Ribeye cheese Steak was rather skimpy as well as if it was portion controlled to fit in the hero.If I would have read the reviews before going there, I would not have wasted my time. It's now 3 hours later and my son and I are hungry again. We've been to many other places where we eat half of our sandwiches and save the rest for later. Nothing to save for later here. Also maybe the owner don't realize that you can't charge a Congestion Pricing of a $1.00 to$1.25 on Coffee Soda just because it's named Manhattan Special. Was excited to try this place but came out very disappointed. Serving sizes warranted the prices but the quality and taste of the food was subpar. Ordered for pickup and service was kind and prompt. Overheard another employee walking through the menu to a customer and suggesting things and overall enjoyed the atmosphere. Feels friendly and clean. Food was supremely lacking flavor. Chicken caesar sub lacked toppings and sauce and what sauce it did have was very bland. Custom sub was a good size and topped well but had a rather large piece of thin soft plastic that looked like it came from what the meats would be stored in. Rice balls were good but nothing to write home about. For how much they emphasize the quality of their bread it was supremely disappointing to feel like both the oven bread and semolina loaves tasted day old and spongy. Pear salad was bland and did not taste fresh. Ordered on a friday at peak lunch rush. Hope things get sorted out but would not go out of my way to eat here again with the taste of the food.
