Tropical Cafe — Restaurant in Marlborough

We’re in Marlborough for a few days of r&r. Was going out for dinner but hubby wanted to stay in. We are Trini/New Yorkers. Hubby wanted the whole fish and rice, red beans and a salad. I did the pork ribs, rice and stuffed beans. Now because we are Trinis our food is very diverse because of the Spanish, French, Dutch, English and Syrian influences in the country. Not forgetting the Indian and Chinese. So Brazilian fare should be pretty similar to some of our fare in Trinidad. But I can’t imagine eating plain rice with whatever meat or fish you order and Absolutely no kind of gravy or sauce to put on the rice. So dry rice and dry meat or fish. I had to call them to let them know that they forgot something on our order (stuffed beans which they said is dry) and ask them to send another order of red beans so i can have it with my rice. The person who took my order said they don’t do any gravies Other than that hubby enjoyed his fried whole fish. I tasted the pork. Not bad a bit chewy. Waiting on the beans to finish dinner. Got the beans. It came quickly. A little less salt please....

So this place is as authentic as it gets when it comes to a brazilian burger joint. The steak (picanha) is good but not the best ive had. I would probably go to pampas in worcester for that. The reason why im giving this place a 3 star is because of the servers they have. They dont seem to undersand the natural process of waiting on a guest. You know, take drink order, appetizers then the main dish. They just bring you a menu and walk away. The wait staff seem to have no clue how to serve a table. No smiles, no name introduction, nothing. It really feels like they are doing you a favor by the way they serve you. Its as if everytime i go there the waitress looks slightly anoyed by me being there. I would recoment this place if you wanna swing by after work and grab a bite but i would not dare to bring a date or friends here. This place would deff get a five star rating once they start to implement the standards of customer service when it comes to the wait staff. Did i mention its overpriced as hell? Because it is. Certainly a once a month...

Definitely not going back. Not after seeing the price going up high and the quality down low. Last visit I paid for 3 meals, almost 100 dollars, shocking. 100 dollars for rice and beans and chicken. The beans were NOT fresh at all. I didn't want eat it. So, felt like I was throwing away 100 bucks. Of course, it includes tips that they obligate you to pay to contribute for the servers salary. It's a big No for me. You wanna sell rice and beans for 20 something bucks, that's up to you, but at least throw away the old food and serve a fresh...
