I unfortunately had a very bad experience here. We entered the restaurant and sat down at a table missing appropriate silverware or chopsticks. Service was slow and the staff was clearly overworked and understaffed.
The waitress messed up my wife's order and gave her chicken chow mein instead of vegetarian. By itself, this isn't a big deal, but unfortunately they did not offer a replacement or take it off the bill. In fact, when we politely informed the waitress, she quickly ran away and avoided us for the rest of the meal, even when we tried to get her attention. We would've been fine taking the chicken chow mein to go and ordering something else, but she didn't even come around to ask what would be best for us!
When the bill came, they left the uneaten chicken chow mein on the bill and wouldn't take it off the bill. They also quickly carted away the (completely untouched) meal without asking if we wanted it to go. I felt really angered by this lack of hospitality, and I find it especially concerning that they avoided us for the entire meal. I would not recommend this place to anyone with dietary restrictions, or really just anyone in general if this is how they treat...
Read moreThe General Chicken 左宗雞 had several stand-out qualities. First, the sauce used to stir-fry the chicken was rich, flavorful, and balanced—both tangy and sweet with just the right amount of heat. The portion size was generous, with plenty of chicken to go around, which I appreciated. Another plus was the way the broccoli was incorporated. There weren't too many pieces, and they were the same size as the chicken, making it easy and pleasant to eat together.
That said, the chicken lost its crispiness due to the steam inside the takeout container. By the time I dug in, the once-crispy coating had become soft and was falling off the chicken, which was a bit of a letdown.
I also ordered the Shrimp Fried Rice 蝦炒飯 , and while the flavor was absolutely fantastic, I did encounter a minor issue with the shrimp. A couple of them still had their digestive tracts intact, which I had to remove before eating. Although it's a small detail, it detracted from the otherwise...
Read moreJust a passenger traveling through the train station, I came upon this restaurant a very short walk away. I ordered a vegetarian chow mein lunch special, which was very fairly portioned and came with a spring roll to boot. Best noodles I’ve had in a long time, thick and chewy with strong overtones of garlic - and quite filling. The hostess was very kind and went out of her way to get me some additional soy sauce packets. The food came out promptly and hot with everything I needed for a meal to go. I am not familiar with Martinez California but I will remember this city has one awesome Chinese restaurant close to the train...
