First time visiting. A lunch visit.
Quite reasonably priced lunch menu and good tasting dishes. I chose a lunch combo which was 2 a la carte entrees served with rice and beans. I chose the beef burrito and a chile relleno. Both were very tasty.
The burrito was a bit thinner than I anticipated but good. The poblano pepper for the chile relleno was larger than I anticipated. It is stuffed with Monterey Jack cheese covered in egg white and deep fried and covered with poblano sauce. I would have liked a bit more of the sauce and fried a tad longer but the cheese stuffed inside was warm and gooey and oh so good.
The beans and rice were very good although the rice could have used a little something-something more in it. Spice of some sort or onions but still good.
The chips and salsa served first (no charge) were good but it would be nice if the chips were served warm. Not sure if it was by accident or on purpose but they came with a few pieces of fried sweet potato on it. The menu says they serve sweet potato fries but these almost had the texture of chips. Accident or not...they were absolutely scrumptious.
Generous lunch sized portions and only $6.99. Beverage extra. The person I ate with had a taco salad and said it was quite good. She asked for a couple changes to The regular item and they handled The change with no problems except they forgot to bring some ranch dressing on the side but that was quickly rectified.
The two meals and one soda came to $18 and change. So very affordable place for good food. Excellent dining atmosphere.
I was a bit concerned going because of reviews about slow service but we were seated and waited on very promptly. It was not long between ordering and delivery of food either. There was quite a crowd for a weekday lunch. I don't know if this is typical or because the place is recently opened. It was about 12:30 so it may be due to the peak of lunch rush and the crowd had thinned quite a bit by the time we left. It is spacious but there was no waiting to be seated. The wait staff did seem to be a bit pushed to get to everyone in the place but did manage to check in on us from time to time. Perhaps adding a couple more employees during peak time would be helpful but the owners may be waiting to see how things fly too. The staff all were professional, courteous and sociable and didn't mind answering questions for this newbie.
I did have to ask for clarification on the lunch menu with the combo. As it states you can choose 1 or 2 items but the list of items to choose from are on the a la carte list off the main menu they give you but that is not explained clearly on the lunch menu. So maybe some room for improvement there. But overall the menu was descriptive and self-explanatory.
Near the entrance they had a tequila bar that I am not sure if it is open only at night or for special occasions but had recently had a tasting party a couple days ago. Very beautiful.
Additionally there are many items for sale as you enter the lobby. Tequila/liquor decanters, a lot of what I call Dia De Los Muertos themed statuary and other items.
All in all a very good experience with very good food at affordable prices. I...
Read moreMy husband and I found this place after moving to North County. You know…new neighborhood…let’s find the best local eats! I’ve lived in The Lou my whole life and not sure when they opened, but couldn’t believe that I hadn’t yet found this place. From the welcoming entrance, with a convenient covered drop off, to the adorable gift shop when you walk in the doors, we immediately felt like this was our place. The hostess is always polite and sometimes not the warmest like others have mentioned, but they’re usually teens, so I don’t have super-high expectations. My teenagers can present a little sullen sometimes too. It’s hard work this adulting stuff. 😉 Skip over it and wish them well because what awaits for you on the other side of the arched entrance is fabulous. All of the decor is keeping with the usual Mexican materials, but with so many beautiful celestial accents. Everywhere you turn you see the sun, moon or stars. The tile work, art and sculptures blend perfectly and I felt even more like we’d found our place when we saw the Mi Casa Es Su Casa over the bar. 🥰 We say that all the time! 😀 The tequila selection is spectacular. They have a small private tasting room off the storefront, so if the agave lightning is your jam then this is the spot. They even do a bottle service where they will keep one with your name on it. The bar is spacious and they have a huge patio. Inside there are plenty of booths and larger tables. At lunchtime, I’ve seen many small companies hold lunch meetings in the private dining room and lots of Westport-area workers. At dinner the place can get very busy and I saw recently they are going to have live talent events. Such a fun place. The wait staff are all very friendly and helpful. But the food and the margaritas are why we keep coming back! It’s a terrific menu of Mexican favorites that taste delicious each and every time. Even our leftovers are good a day later! We have probably eaten here over a dozen times this last year. It’s definitely our favorite Mexican restaurant in St. Louis. We are blessed to have such a great place nearby. May their business continue to...
Read moreMy family and I went to Casa Juarez for the first time last night. We had a party of nine which they were able to accommodate quite easily, without a reservation (they don't take reservations), so that was nice. The lady they had at the check-in desk was VERY somber and unfriendly - no smile whatsoever. She looked as if she'd rather be anywhere else in the world but there. When we were all seated, I asked our waiter for menus. He responded that they were only allowed to give one physical menu for the entire table of nine and that said menu had all of the prices removed since the prices were different after covid. We were advised that the rest of us would have to scan the QR code in order to see the menu. To say the least, it was a huge hassle. A couple of our party members were elderly and were not well versed in how to scan QR codes, and some people's phones would not scan the QR code. It was just a big, inconvenient, annoying mess. After almost 35 aggravating minutes of trying to download menus online, we were finally ready to order. The food was brought out in a timely manner but, we all pretty much agreed, it just wasn't good. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food, this place is not for you. Our party was celebrating two birthdays so we asked the staff to sing Happy Birthday and to provide us with the small birthday treat for both birthday members. I couldn't believe it when both my mother and my brother were asked to provide proof of their birthdays! I was very offended and it just seemed very petty to me that they would ask that, as I've asked for that to be done in numerous restaurants over the years and never, ever once have I been asked to show ID to prove that it was actually my birthday. Besides, it's not like they were providing a free meal or something. It was only a tiny piece of cheesecake (the size of a sandwich cookie), with a dollop of whipped cream! And, all though they knew we were celebrating two birthdays, they only brought out one birthday treat. I'll try anything once, but we will never return to this restaurant. I DO NOT recommend...
