TLDR: Staff forgot to include $30 worth of paid for food in takeout order. Burritos were under portioned for the price paid.
Vibe: 4/5. Tucked away in the corner of the Shawan Plaza shopping center, Bubbakoos is a fast casual Mexican Fusion restaurant. Relatively new to the scene, the restaurant itself is nicely laid out, complete with easy to read overhead menus and a Chipotle style queue line where you can watch your food being made. The restaurant was clean and easy to navigate/access which is perfect for the weekday lunch crowds and to go orders.
Service: 2/5. Me and a colleague of mine visited for lunch on a Sunday around 2pm. The restaurant was dead, with only 2 others seated in the dining room. When we got to the counter to order, there were 2 staff members working and ready to help. We were placing a rather large order to go, consisting of $80+ worth of food so we had to go slowly item by item for the staff to get it all down. We ordered pre-set burritos and entrees from their favorites menu, so we did not have to go down the line with the staff member to create each item. Assembling the large order took about 15-20 minutes, as some of the items needed to be fried and done on the grill, which we had no problem waiting off to the side. Throughout the entire time, not a single additional customer entered the restaurant, so our order was not causing interference with normal operations. Finally, we were told our order was ready to bagged up ready to go. We happily paid and left, which unfortunately was our big mistake. It was not until 40 minutes later when we got home and unpacked the order that we realized they had shorted us 3 entrees, or approx $30 worth of food. Then to add insult to injury, when we started opening up the burritos, we were severely disappointed by the portion size. I would say these $12+ burritos were about half the size of Chipotle/Qdoba. Disappointing to say the least. Perhaps it was an off day, or this particular location's growing pains, but the overall experience was lacking.
Food: 3/5. Besides the portion size issue mentioned above, the food quality was good. From what we received in our short changed order, the surf and turf burrito and General Tso burrito were very tasty, hitting all the flavor cues we were expecting. The Chiwawa, which is a fried cheese rice ball with toppings, was a fun item to try, giving diners a unique eating experience. Another win was the mini churro bites which were perfectly fried and seasoned with cinnamon. Unfortunately the items that were missing from our order, the works nachos, queso fries, and quesadilla can't be commented on, but I'm sure we're decent. Overall, Bubbakoos has some tasty, unique food options for fast casual diners. However at the premium price point Bubbakoos is asking of its patrons, I'm not sure if...
Read moreFirst and foremost, let me begin by saying I will definitely try this spot again. I feel as though the second time could be much better.
1st time here, and immediately, I liked the vibe. Cool California vibe. Chill and laid back, but maybe a bit too laid back when it comes to the food prep. The associate putting our food together seemed to be all over the place. Forgetting to add ingredients and forgetting different parts of our order, running back and forth just seemed a bit much. The food was ok, but it didn't wow me as much as the names of each dish on the menu did. For instance, General Tso tacos could have been soooo much better had they all had equal amounts of chicken and rice. One taco has enough rice for all 3, while the other didn't have hardly any rice or chicken. We ordered the Loaded Nashville fries (which BTW, have so much potential to be good), BUT they were so drenched in hot sauce that the fries were mushy and gross. I was really looking forward to some good food. Just didn't happen this go around. Again, I will give them a second chance...
Read moreWe’ve never been here before and never heard of it but when we heard Nashville hot we had to try. Ordered a ton of food in different varieties for take out.
Mom does not like spice - the ground beef burrito was great! She loved it and loved the taste.
I’m middle of the road spice. The buffalo chicken quesadilla was perfect. Great tasting with slight spice, flavorful, and that little vinegar kick. I also got nachos with crispy chicken - and great taste. Crispy chips even after the drive home. Way too much food I’ll have leftovers! Really really good.
Lastly, we’ve been to Tennessee and loved the Nashville hot from several places there. This is the closest we have come to here and it was great. A little too spicy for me but my brother loves spice and said it got his approval. He also got the ghost pepper burrito. Commented on how good it was, good amount of chicken included and definitely spicy but flavorful.
Service was great and fast, food warm and right, taste was great. It’s worth the 30...
