I got married at the George Peabody Library in August 2017 and we selected Charles Levine as our caterer of the three available options. After the first tasting with Charles, we knew that he was the right caterer for us. He and his team were very friendly. He understood the type of wedding that we wanted to have and the flow that we wanted for the cocktail hour and dinner service. We had two tastings with Charles and we tasted our main entree - short ribs - both times. Each time it was served with a delicious sauce and at our final tasting we discussed adding a glaze for the short ribs. The entree was described on our menu as a whiskey glazed short rib. We also talked about one of our guests, a child, who could not eat the short rib with sauce because of dietary restrictions and asked him to prepare one portion for this child without sauce. Imagine our surprise when our entree came out and there was no sauce or glaze on any of the plates. Just the meat and other accompaniments. When the plates came out, they looked like something was missing so it was surprising the the plates were even allowed to leave the kitchen. The sauce would have tied everything together on the plate. Thankfully, the meat was cooked well and very tender, but the entree our guests received was not what we discussed. Several of out guests requested a condiment or sauce, but there wasn’t anything available. Our wedding planner followed up with Charles and his team several times, but we never personally received an apology or any resolution to this issue. The rest of the food was delicious and we had an amazing wedding, but this was an easily avoidable oversight and a low point to an otherwise...
Read moreHe served something I am deathly allergic to the smell of at my wedding... and he knew it. He seems great until about a month or two before the wedding. He wouldn't return my phone calls until I showed up at the catering address to drop off decor. He has a lot of brilliant ideas that he spat off the entire year and a half we were planning but the day of almost none of them happened. He needs someone to write his ideas down so you have them on writing. The food wasn't what we agreed on. The ceremony rentals were not in the correct place. A few of my guests didn't have seats at their table. we ran out of our signature drink before cocktail hour was over- he never replenished it. We also ran out of beer, which he did go out and get more. The food that was served was Delicious, but the ideas we had Planned for so long were completely wrong. He completely threw off the timeline as well. I would absolutely not recommend him. This may have just coincided with the opening of his new restaurant so he wasn't focused. But it was an awful...
Read moreCharles and his team made my sister's wedding an outstanding affair. As her planner, I knew that Charles would be the perfect choice for her March wedding at the George Peabody Library because he personally takes ownership for the events he caters. He wanted to know who they were as a couple, took the time to speak with them (which is rare for an owner/lead chef!), and even came by on the wedding day to ensure everything was running smoothly.
In terms of his staff, Donna, Mike, Bob, Jorge, and many others have worked with Charles for years. It is evident that he treats those he works with like family. Each member of his team checked in with the planning team often which led to seamless execution on their wedding day. Charles is determined to have excellence associated with his name and the delicious food, wonderful team (including Diane who corresponds prior), and attention to detail make me certain that you will not be disappointed when booking with them for your event. Many thanks to Charles...
