My wife and I are busy professionals that do not get a lot of personal time together due to our careers and three young children. After hearing a friend rave about the beautiful layout and food, we decided to make our first date night in months to Citron. From the moment we walked in, my wife and I were wowed by the classy and upscale feel. A gentleman greeted us at the door with a full smile and sat us immediately, even though we had no reservation. Along the way to our seat, he asked what the occasion was for our visit. Our response was simply, “ It’s our first night without kids in a long time.” From there he smiled, thanked us for coming, and gave us a tour of the restaurant. He explained the purpose of various rooms and even allowed us to pick what part of the restaurant that made us feel the most comfortable in our dining experience.
From this point the night only got better. The gentleman brought his most experienced associate to wait on us throughout the evening. Together, they explained the various menus, told us stories and brought out our meals quickly to perfection. My wife and I talked amongst ourselves about how we felt likes stars for the evening. Especially for a couple that once dined out daily prior to Covid, yet now work almost 70 hours a week and focus on raising our young children. This was an experience that took all the stress of our week away.
After completing our meal which included the beautifully aesthetic Citron Salad, Ahi Tuna Tar Tar, and the 12oz Fresh Roast Statler Chicken Breast, we were left with nothing to desire. The couple that sat next to us were a beautiful couple sharing their best stories of their 37 years of marriage. They told us they knew the gentleman that was assisting in our night and informed us he not only worked there, but was the owner, Charles Levine.
Our experience was one to never forget. Citron is a destination. A place to go and feel above the fray. The food alone was easily the best prepared meal we have ever experienced in the Baltimore/DC region. Prior to Covid, my wife and I have frequented every famed restaurant in Baltimore and Washington DC as a way to relax and get out. We were regulars at locations in Harbor East, to Boston Street, Fells Point to Mt Vernon, and Hunt Valley. From Georgetown, to Logan Circle, to Center City in DC to Old town Alexandria However not one single experience even came close to our night at Citron.
We left Citron feeling as though we found the restaurant of our dreams. We made new friendships with the cutest couple in Baltimore, Mr Henry and Dorothy Rosenberg. We also were provided a lovely dessert to enjoy once we got home to continue our experience. Mr Charles Levine and his Citron Restaurant is the best location to dine in the region. I am generally the “needy and complaining” customer when I go out. However tonight, I wanted for nothing but to come back. My wife and I thank you for the best dinner experience we have ever had. We will be...
Read moreI took an anniversary trip to this restaurant and was initially pleased with the aesthetic. The decor was warm and welcoming, although the concierge seemed a little confused and required the assistance of the owner to seat my party. Once seated, we were welcomed, by 3 different servers within a 5 minute period, this tells me that there was no communication. When finally we were narrowed down to one server, the drinks came out fast, but wrong. There was a correction made, and all seemed well. Our server did not go through the menu, nor did they explain any (if there were any) specials etc. Our server was a bit disengaged and came by once in a while to see if we were ready to order. It was difficult for us not to observe the table behind us, and the attention to detail that was presented to those guests. It was like night and day, we finally settled on appetizers, I had the tuna tartare, which could have used acid, the other was a caesar salad, which barely had any dressing. On to the entrée which was poorly cooked and presented (the plating was horrible, perhaps the app. and entrée plates should have been switched). I had the 9oz filet (needed to rest longer for the carry-over to succeed and the protein not to bleed out on the plate) it was undercooked toward the center, and dried out as I was eating. The baby potatoes were served whole and consequently unevenly cooked (the cook probably didn't understand that the baby red potatoes needed to cook longer than the others). An easy fix to that is to slice them before cooking, the demi tasted like brown gravy from a can. The best thing on the plate was the asparagus I was given 5 pieces, and my significant other had 4 (inconsistent). The garnish on my app and my entrée was the same. This may seem nitpicky, but when I am paying $300 for 2 guests, and being in the business, I expect better. My significant other had the Mahi Mahi, which was underseasoned, the hash that is sat atop was bland as well. We were afforded a slice of coconut cake as an anniversary token, but even that tasted like the reach-in refrigerator it was stored in (not wrapped or stored correctly). Perhaps whoever is sourcing the product, and hiring the cooks needs to tighten the processes up a notch if they're going to price the menu the way the have. As well as having consistency with the servers. The young man who had the table behind us was knowledgeable and attentive. Just a suggestion, but Smith Island cake would be a nice addition to the menu (it's local, and the state of Maryland...
Read moreLet me just say this. This was my first time dinning at this restaurant and it will be my last time me, my friends or any of my family members will dine at this restaurant. In my honest opinion, there was so much deception with the service I received, that it became utterly ridiculous. As the host who was trying to make sure the event in terms of games and music went smoothly, I was highly disappointed. First, as soon as I walked into the restaurant, into the rented space, my wifi turned off completely (no service), which was odd since the celebrant (my sister) was reassured before booking the space that the Wifi will be available to all guests. When the guests were finally given the WiFi password, it still did not work, reading “no internet connection”. I had to walk across from the restaurant In order to receive any service. As the night progressed, I still did not receive WiFi connection until close to the end of the event. Problem #2, when me and my friend were trying to connect the laptop to their monitor in order to play a game to entertain our guests, yet again the WiFi was still unavailable to us. The manager who came to help us took little accountability and blamed the WiFi problem on the computer itself. Keep in mind, they assured my sister (the celebrant) before this event that everything would run smoothly on the set date. Problem #3 my sister couldn’t enjoy her birthday because the music she requested was not played in the rented space. When the music was changed, it was something different from what my sister requested. Not only that, as the host, when I requested for the music to be turn down or off in order for the games to commence, the waiters did not listen to my instructions. It became frustrating to coordinate the games over loud music. Even when it was time to sing happy birthday to my sister, again I requested for the music to be turned down or turned off and my request was ignored yet again. To make matters worse, the waiters brought out appetizers after appetizers that the guests did not order. Overall, my sister was left feeling frustrated throughout her birthday celebration. Everything agreed upon between the restaurant and my sister was not met the day of the event. From the WiFi, to the music, to the appetizers, to the cake, and the bill was just disappointing. Like I stated earlier, this will be the first and last time I dine at Citron. Me and my sister were highly...
