I don't know where to start with Judy's Island Grill. We had been looking forward to dining here after driving past the restaurant for many years and noticing how it was always busy.
Unfortunately, tonight was a disappointment and I don't recommend the restaurant, so I'll get that out of the way. Perhaps it was an off night but I doubt it.
Our server, Vanessa, was very kind and sweet. However, she disappeared for long periods of time and explained my dish, the chickpea curry roti, as a Jamaican quesadilla (tortilla filled with toppings, folded in half and then pan cooked), but what was brought to the table was curried chickpeas, potatoes, onions and green peppers in a bowl with rice (so, very much not a quesadilla...). I didn't get an opportunity to inquire about the dish because she disappeared and told us her manager had her fulfilling drinks, but we noticed a male bartender behind the bar and there were only four people sitting there, so the bar was nearly empty. It just didn't add up.
Our friend ordered the crab cakes for $15 and they were TINY. The size of falafel and all breading, barely any crab. Far too expensive. My fiancé had the oxtail quesadilla (an actual quesadilla) and he enjoyed that. Vanessa actually brought him the meat to try ahead of time, which was very appreciated.
For $92 (18% mandatory gratuity added), we had the "curried chickpea roti," an actual oxtail quesadilla, super expensive crabcakes, two small portions of baked macaroni and cheese, one soft drink and a sangria (no fruit, by the way). Far, far too expensive for the flavor and quality.
The restaurant itself is quite nice, definitely an island vibe. The music is quite loud and it's difficult to hear one another talking, so be prepared to talk loudly during your meal.
Again, Vanessa had a lovely personality but she disappeared and my meal wasn't at all as described, flavors simply weren't tasty and overall, it was a disappointment.
I'm glad we finally tried Judy's Island Grill after seeing for so many years, but it's certainly a one and done...
Read moreI was truly looking forward to dining here...I think I set my expectations TOO high...My husband and I entered the restaurant as a large group of people were leaving; we ASSUMED it HAD TO BE delicious...We approached the counter and stood there for 5 minutes before the woman tampering with one of the payment consoles RUDELY ORDERED the gentleman at the counter to assist us WITHOUT ever acknowledging our presence...We were given a table and left to our own devices for about 15 minutes...We were not in a rush, so we took the time to scour the menu and drinks listings...FINALLY our waiter, who turned out to be the best part of this visit---(THANKS SHAVON for being so attentive) took our order...I must note that the drink listings' prices are ONLY for LUNCH HOURS...they are significantly higher afterwards... I wanted a pitcher of sangria-$15 however I was told it would be $25...I ended up ordering the tropical rum punch that was by far THE WORST mixed drink I've ever had__ nothing tropical about the watered down fruit punch in a 12oz glass for $11...I ordered a combo plate of oxtails and jerk chicken, rice and peas and a side salad...My husband ordered the jerk pork, mac&cheese and potatoes salad...Our food arrived about 10 minutes after the order was placed...it smelled absolutely devine...LOOKS ARE DECEIVING...my oxtails were tough (didn't believe that was even possible) my jerk chicken was mediocre in taste, the rice and beans were dry and lacked flavor but the worst was my husband's jerk pork which resembled and tasted like dry pieces of wood... definitely a one time deal...TRULY...
Read moreEvery time I drive by, the parking lot is full. From the reviews and all the cars decided it was time to give it a try. Oh boy, was that a miserable mistake. Decide to "dine-in" didn't realize that I would have to invest a couple hours and get nothing to enjoy or remember about. The table that we sat at was not cleaned, and none of the staff stepped up to correct it. They were extremely lacks in cleaning tables. Sat for 30 minutes without being greeted or even acknowledged. The alarming thing that we noticed was that the restaurant charges 18% tip. With the lack of cleanliness, service, and missing items that we ordered. The customer should be given the option of tipping, and with everything we endured, i would not have tipped at all. had to flag one of the workers behind the bar to step out and take our order. Ordered conch fritters, Brussel sprouts, curry chicken with okra, mild jerk chicken, and vegetable stir fry. Waited over an hour and finally received everything except for the okra and the jerk chicken. Asked for the bill, and a server tells us the price but doesn't give us a receipt. Ask for a paper receipt and the look the server gave us was it like we asked for the secret recipe. Waited another 10 minutes and he finally brings the receipt with being charged for the okra and jerk chicken. Question it with the server that why charge us for something we didn't get. He walked away and came back after another 10 minute wait with the jerk chicken and okra. Said that they thought we wanted it to go? Didn't offer any apologies or offer to take the two items...
