Have you been to Remo's of NY yet? The place was jam packed on a recent Saturday night visit. Fortunately, an early arrival secured a booth so there was no wait. We started our meal with Shrimp Sinatra - perfectly plump shrimp sitting atop crostini wedges with a silky garlic cream sauce; and Fried Mozzarella Sticks (which weren't sticks), medallions of creamy mozzarella, breaded and fried, served with a marinara sauce. The cheese had some terrific pull! A small bread tray was also offered with small, warm buns and a nice garlic/herb extra virgin olive oil. It would have been nice to have the bread basket served along with entrees because that was the only bread offered. A small detail but I'd rather have bread with my meal than with an appetizer, or at least have the basket refilled. Salads are served with entrees at dinner so a house salad and Caeser salad were selected. A consensus among all who tried it was the Caesar salad was way too salty, as if it had been salted both before/after dressing. Entrees for the meal were Lasagne Bolognese, Salmon Limoncello, Pasta al Forno, and Chicken Parmigiana. The lasagna appears to have been individually made instead of cut from a large tray. There was plenty of marinara and meat filling but no cheese inside the lasagna. The Pasta al Forno was a very large bowl topped with cheese and basil. The parmigiana was two cutlets topped with cheese and a very large portion of pasta in-between. Salmon Limoncello was served with plenty of capers (perhaps not rinsed enough as they added an incredible saltiness to the dish) and roasted potatoes. I have to give credit to our Italian waiter, though. He had his hands full with every table in his section taken but still made sure we were satisfied and that our drinks were refilled. But what about dessert? Hah! These portions are so large no one had room and everyone took home leftovers. I'm inclined to give more than four stars but the oversaltiness of some dishes makes me hold back. Perhaps the kitchen staff was overwhelmed by the large crowd and lost focus. I'd like to come back on another day and time when the restaurant isn't filled to capacity to see what changes are there. In any event, I do suggest you give Remo's of NY a try. It's conveniently located right off Joppa Road and large well-lit parking...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI frequent Remos quite a bit and normally, would give it 10 stars, however tonight our experience was appalling and it was shockingly due to the manager (owner?). We called a week ahead for a reservation for 10 for my company's holiday dinner, but had to change the head count day of to 14. When we arrived, we realized we miscounted and it was actually 16 people. With the exception of 3 or 4 full booths, the entire area where we were was empty. Instead of adding another of the EMPTY tables to ours (there were FOUR), we were told that four of my guests had to sit at a separate table. I asked to speak to the manager and was VERY RUDELY told that our reservation was for 10, then we changed and now we needed more room, and that we weren't the only people who had reservations, so no he wasn't adding another table to ours. He went on to say that he had a party of 8 coming in about an hour from then (it was 4:50 pm) and another party of 4 and then he stormed away. When we finally finished and left at 7:15, TWO HOURS AND FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER, not one of his so called reservations had shown up. In fact, the entire time we were there, only the booths and bar area were seated with patrons. Our bill was near $400. NOT including tip, and we got not a word of thanks for giving them our business. In all fairness, the service by Dan and Bobbi was OUTSTANDING and the food was DELICIOUS. Two of our dinners came out with the wrong pasta, not the fault of our servers, and again, nothing from the manager. It was disappointing to say the least. I own a service oriented business myself and would never treat a customer so disrespectfully. It was completely offensive and I'm honestly considering NEVER going back. I'm certainly going to be sharing my experience with others and I definitely won't be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband & I ate there this past Saturday nite for the 2nd time. The appetizer of Fried Mozzarella Sticks (More like Softballs! They are huge!)were fabulous. Cream if Crab Soup was good, not too spicy, enough Crab, but could've been a bit thicker. Both of our Salads with packets of Ken's Bleu Cheese were standard. The Spaghetti with my Husband's Chicken Parm was overcooked for his palate, but the Chicken was good. My Times Square Angel Pasta had a blush cream sauce with broccoli, mushrooms, spinach & sun-dried tomatoes. The sauce was a tad thin & the sun-dried tomato taste overpowered the flavor. I would not get it again. I should have gone with my 1st pick of Penne Pasta, but wanted to try something more adventurous. My biggest qualm in general is that for an Italian Restaurant, I am disappointed that they do NOT serve any Bread with Dinner. For the $50 spent price, a homemade hot mini loaf or a few slices of warm Italian Bread served with Olive Oil would be nice. We both are used to having some bread to assist with any Sauce left over to sponge it up with. We did take home a doggy bags, as the portions were Large. Our Waitress was efficient & did check back on us in appropriate intervals throughout the meal. All in all, we will probably dine there again, as it is close to home, clean, has good parking & a sizable menu to select from. Maybe next time they will add...
