We went last night. I have mixed emotions about ky visit. The decor was dated but maybe that is on purpose. The service was awesome and the bar service was efficient. The prices were moderately reasonable for what you ordered but portion size conflicted with the price. We had the Pastrami snadwich and the Chicken breast with crab entree. The sandwich selection was nice, the Pastrami sndw. while tasty did not have very much meat, the meat was all uniformly cut so I am not sure if the pastrami was fresh or freshly frozen or what. The sandwich was okay and they had two mustard options. The chicken breast was a disaster. Period. The best part of the Chicken breast with crab entree was the fact theu let me substitute my veggies with spinach. The spinach was superb, otherwise the entree was a true disappointment. The chicken breasts were two small pieces, the bottoms were brown and hard making both small pieces overdone to just the point of still being edible and the crab meat topping was crunchy in a way that crabmeat should never be crunchy. I was cheated big time out of what should have been a great meal. The waitress offered to bring me a different meal but since I had already eaten the superb spinach and the uber bland mashed potatoes it did not feel right to accept.
The ambience was very friendly but while it wasn't very crowded our waitress would still disappear, she did an excellent job when she was there. Zero complaints. While family friendly this is not a place for children. Between the food options and the kid friendly menus or what I like to call distractors this would be a bad move. True it is up to me to entertain my children and raise them to behave in public, small children can only sit still so long beforw becoming restless. It doesnt have to be crayons and pictures to color, there was nothing. At. All. For them. Nada.
Bland food, chicken breast that should never make it out of the kitchen, a pastrami sandwich with half the meat missing.......maybe this just isn't the place for me. Others seem to like it based on the reviews. I cannot say the reviews were misleading, I do say to...
Read moreWhen I looked to have a perfect birthday dinner I chose Shannon's because I knew they have prime rib and baked potato with sour cream, my quintessentail celebration meal, on the menu.... Then I saw Today's Special, twin filets mignons topped with crab lumps and bearnaise sauce accompanied by baked potato and green vegetable. How could I resist? My husband also chose it. We both loved it. It was an excellent cut of beef cooked just as we specified. But I HAD to have dessert for my birthday, five-mile high chocolate cake. My husband indulged in Bailey's Irish cream bread pudding with vanilla ice cream. Guess what we will be eating tomorrow for both dinner and dessert? I am not even sure we will finish it all then! There are some creative items on the menu, but I like Shannon’s as a reliable source of good solid classic items like hot beef sandwiches or meat loaf. They are also caring. They do not take reservations, but when I came in with my husband, who is visually impaired and uses a cane the hostess told me to call ahead when I plan to come, because they take reservations for patrons with special needs. There is a bar that attracts a lot of regulars, but the bar noise level does not interfere with conversation in the dining room. Shannon’s has been in Ellicott City a long time, and I hope they will continue to be here for many years...
Read moreThis was the first time I had ever tried this establishment. My lady had been here before a few times. We went around 8:30 for dinner and were sat right away by the nice hostess. Into a booth we were placed and first thing I realized was that the seat cushions were horrible. Not soft at all. But no matter. We had shared the french onion soup which was really good. But in my opinion, for the $7 it was small. My lady had the grilled chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries and I had the Sheppard pie. The chicken on the sandwich was really over cooked and dried out. But my lady is not one to make a fuss and just ate it. My Sheppards pie was delicious. Made with ground beef and lamb topedd with mashed potatoes. Really enjoyed this.
We had the lemon coconut cake for dessert and a chocolate martini. The drink was good but the cake was dried out and not good at all. After two bites I was done. Definitely not worth the $9 for a slice of cake. So the bill was a tad over $50 for everything. Which in my opinion is high. Especially for just a piece of chicken on a roll at $15.
I would return again. The server was polite and friendly. It is a very popular establishment with lots...
