This place was recommended to me by someone I randomly got into a conversation with at another one of my favorite spots. She lives in the area and said that this was one of her favorite neighborhood hangouts. Worth a shot!
The wife and I decided to go on one Sunday afternoon. When we got there, the restaurant was much bigger than it appears to be on the outside. We sat at the bar with about six other people, but from what we could tell the rest of the restaurant was pretty empty. Great place to watch sports as there are plenty of TV’s everywhere.
As we were deciding what to order, we struck up a conversation with two other regulars who made some recommendations. My wife got the Big Sur sandwich, we split some blackberry habanero wings, and I got a cheesesteak with a side of chimichurri.
My wife loved the Big Sur sandwich. She offered me a bite which I gladly took and I can say it was very good. The blackberry habanero wings were interesting. I wouldn’t really say that they were very blackberry-y or even that they had the spice I would expect from a habanero. I would basically just call them spicy barbecue wings. Not a knock by any stretch of the imagination - the wings were a decent size, were cooked well, and were very flavorful. Would I order them again? Personally, probably not but only because I don’t love barbecue wings.
The cheesesteak was delicious, the bread was toasted nicely, but still soft enough after absorbing the juices from the ribeye steak. I don’t believe in lettuce, tomato or mayonnaise on a cheesesteak so I got it without that. Provolone cheese, grilled onions and usually some hot peppers are my go to, but I skipped the hot peppers in lieu of trying the chimichurri. Great move! Each of our meals came with fries and I can say that these are some of the best fries I’ve had in a long time. Very well executed!
If you’re in the Kensington area, I would definitely recommend stopping by. The beer list left a little to be desired, but they had all the normal stuff.
If I could do half star ratings, I would probably give this a 4.5. Everything was really good and despite me rating the service a three, it was not that the service was bad. I kind of felt like there was some sort of inside joke that I wasn’t in on because of the way that some of the staff were teasing and bickering at each other, almost like I was on a hidden camera...
Read moreWhat an amazing experience!!!! Stella Point Grill is the long-awaited offering from the team that ran Quincy's South in North Bethesda. They have redefined the space that some locals will fondly remember as China Gourmet. In it's place, stands a modern inviting, much-needed sportsbar in the Kensington area.
Bravo to Stella!!! They have a wonderful environment that has been much needed in Kensington since the closing of Savannah's. Finally, there's a place where people can come, relax and catch a game!!!
The food is so flippin good. From the bacon wrapped scallops to the steak bites (meat on a stick!!!) to the pizza, which celebrates the new venues roots with Quincy's. Everything on the menu feels elevated and delicious.
But the real stars of this bar are the people. Everyone from the back of the house to the front takes great pride in creating a warm, inviting environment where you can forget your troubles. No one else embodies this more than the fantastic staff at the bar. These lovely people put the tender back in bartender. They make you feel like you're a part of the community. Special shout out to Ian, Gio, Dan, Leo, Fiona, and Sheena. These wonderful people always make me feel welcome. Welcome to the neighborhood, Stella. I'm happy...
Read moreI feel like this place might have opened before they were completely ready. Their beer selection will expand later. A pitcher was kind of expensive, as was the food. Prices are more like what you would expect on Rockville Pike, which makes sense. We found the food to be ok, nothing to write home about and also pricy for what it is. The crab cake was good quality crab with little filler but overwhelmed by whatever herb was mixed in. I carry my own Old Bay so was glad for that. Yes, it’s a sports bar but the tall chairs are a challenge for my middle aged self and just not very comfortable. A sports bar should want to make you comfortable enough to stay the length of a game or trivia event, right? The tables are large and I assume you’re expected to share if your party is only 2-3 people and they’re busy. Again, not comfortable for me. It’s not clear who your tip goes to, maybe it’s shared, because we were served by multiple staff members. Service was very efficient and food was hot and freshly prepared. The fries were our favorite item. We will probably give them another chance in a month or two. Based on our first experience this will not be our new go to place. Four Corners Pub remains our standard, followed by...
