Terra Mare Restaurant & Bar — Restaurant in Maryland

I am so happy to find this place! Ive taken my mother out to two, 2 star and less, restaurants in a row. Terra Mare is a 5!!! The place is designed for accomodating large parties and has a stage where karaoke happens and bands can play. It seems a bit plain walking in, but you are in for a treat if you walk through the doors. We went in when they were slow, so didnt know how to gauge the atmosphere. There was only 1 other table there when we walked in and a couple of guys eating at the bar. The table seemed very happy and comfortable . It was a party of 6 or 7 people and i could kinda tell they were very comfortable and enjoying themselves. Based on looks i thought that the food experience could go either way, but something about that party of 6 gave me the feeling that we were embarking upon a great eating experience. I was correct and started immediately. Fresh homemade bread! Flakey and crispy on outside served with butter. We ordered brussel spouts and wings to start. Brussel sprouts were done very well. Some char and sliced thin. Wings were tossed in garlic and lime and baked. Both were great starters. We ordered fajitas and chicken alfredo to split amongst 3 of us. We destroyed as much as we could. Still had some leftovers. Pasta was amazing. Fajitas were very good. Tortillas are made in house and you can tell! We wrapped it up with a slice of tiramisu. Finally, the restaurant of our dreams, Latalian!! They offer some Honduran specialties & things like loroco pizza and they have a brick oven for pizza but we opted for Italian (chicken/pollo ripieni & fiorentina, & kid's menu linguine+meatballs). The Vodka sauce was especially tasty but truly everything was really, really good. And there was lots of it... definitely good bang for your buck, especially when you're used to today's Italian restaurants that basically serve you tapas sized pasta plates for $20+...

They're smart, they know their $$ is made on booze (it's in a basement and probably does most of its business as a bar) so liquor was pretty expensive but house wine (their choice pinot grigio was super yummy) were reasonable at $9/glass. It's in a basement but my husband noted they do a really good job of bringing light to the space with strategically spaced TVs and we'll conceived lighting. Lastly, our server was SO lovely. Working the bar as well but very attentive and sweet and all around wonderful.

Service was excellent; the young lady was very nice and the appropriate amount, and provided recommendations when asked. 5 Stars.

Her recommendation for the appetizer was the Charred Brussel Sprouts, and it was SO good. The brussel sprouts were charred to perfection with a balsamic reduction. A dipping cup of aioli was provided on the side that complemented the brussel sprouts well. 5 Stars.

I ordered the Pesto Calzone, he ordered Angelo's Special Pizza. Portion sizes were very generous. We both enjoyed our food, but there could be some improvement - the calzone was nice but some of the dough was a little chewier than preferred, and he said the same about his pizza. For him, the mark of a good wood-fired pizza is the charred bits on the dough and crust, which it did not have. Both the pizza and calzone could have baked in the oven a little while longer. 4 Stars.
