Papa Johns Pizza — Restaurant in Matawan

ZERO STARS if I could!

(1) Delivery takes at least 1 hr 40 minutes (this has always happened when we've ordered at least the last 10 times.

(2) Pizza is barely warm by the time you get it.

(3) STINGY on the toppings. You know it's bad when your 3 topping pizza looks like a cheese pizza that accidentally got some toppings dropped on it.

(4) WORST customer service. Read below and see what I mean.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. DELIVERY TAKES ALMOST 2 HOURS (and this has happened many many times). If you want a pizza from here, order it TWO HOURS before you want it and hopefully you enjoy luke-warm pizza. It's not a one-time occurrence. So far we have ordered from them over 10 times and it always takes over 1.5 hours to get to us. Today we ordered a pizza at 11am and even though we were guaranteed that it would get here by 12:10pm (our lunch hour for the office is 12-1pm), we didn't get the pizza (cold) until 12:40pm when our lunch hour was at least half over. The pizza took 1 hour and 40 minutes to get to us. When we called to complain, the woman who answered the phone said she would give us some vouchers but had to speak with the owner and would call us back. They never called us back. We called them again and this time spoke with the owner (who happens to also be the delivery man) who said "listen we have to cross over a railroad to get to you and it takes time. You are FIVE MILES AWAY. You are far!" and refused to give us the vouchers his employee promised. The owner is RUDE and has the worst customer service. All they needed to do was apologize and give us the vouchers at his employee...

I used to order from here years ago when I lived in old bridge, that was about 7 years ago. Being back in jersey i came by for a pie, new owners since that time and these guys are much better. The place is clean & neat, i also appreciate being greeted when i visit the location. I will say even though everyone there is great and they all do make good food, so far Mustafa seems to be the most seasoned gentleman there, he makes the best pizza out of everyone so far.

There are a lot of names for bread & the inside but for the sake of the post i will stick to English descriptions only. The crust is always very thick and full but only when i have an order made by Mustafa. I love bread and that makes the crust my favorite part of the pizza, the inside of the crust when Mustafa makes my order is always thick and soft inside, you could actually pull it out if you wanted & eat it in pieces.

I actually just tried the Garlic 5 cheese crust pizza they have, it is a new pie so i figured i would try it.

I got this pizza to the car and i always check my food when i get it, Mustafa was working so i know its going to be good but this was even better than his usual, the large pie of this was great, i felt like i needed to get another one for everyone else to try at home so i just ordered a second pizza before i left .

Honestly they are all great people in there i do love this location now with the new owners but definitely i have to be honest, Mustafa does makes a thicker and fluffy pie.

Let's play spot the pineapple, and spot the mushroom.

My order was a pizza with pineapple, normal.

The second pizza was a large pizza with double mushroom and green peppers.

What is the point of ordering double toppings when you only get a sprinkle anyway?

And no, they weren't "under the cheese."

I wasted one of the toppings in my order because double mushroom is apparently the same as normal mushroom.

I may as well pick three different toppings so I at least know I'm getting all three.

But judging from the pathetic amount of pineapple on my other pizza, maybe not.

I love this location, even though they won't deliver to me because I'm two minutes outside of their delivery radius, and they've never really let me down until now or I'd be rating lower.

If this is normal, and I'm just overreacting, then disregard this review.

But it's super disappointing to drive 17 minutes out to this place, only to get home and find the bare minimum.

The pizza is always good, the amount of cheese is fine, no issues with the sauce, but this was so disappointing I had to say something.

At least it's not as bad as the other Papa John's I reviewed when I lived in Ohio...they really screwed me over. It was just bread with sauce. I posted my review with pictures and a week later their quality improved tenfold. I genuinely hope this helps course correct this location.
