Plenty of parking, seated right away, and tons of empty tables. Should have been my sign to turn around… It’s started out amazing, fresh baked rolls that were delicious, reminded me of Ruth Chris Steak (I understand I’m not there) house bread. Ordered cheese curds, they were okay. Pretty sure they were frozen. Who order cheese curds at a steak house, I guess us, but most cheese curds are frozen right? Okay cool so the cheese curds were not that great but they make fresh bake bread, the rest has to be great…. Our food HAD to be sitting under a blown light bulb light or on a server pick up station without heat lamps for 10+ minutes, my ribs were definitely luke warm, same with potato’s and were starting to harden on the top, and the onion rings were warm but defiantly not home made FROZEN…. I ate the top of the ribs, a little mashed potato’s, and 1 onion ring. This was my meal… My wife said basic…. Chicken sandwich no sauce and couldn’t taste the marinade… fries okay… You make fresh bread… make fresh onion rings….make fresh (not frozen) fries. Your 5 minutes from farmer markets…. Your google response are all about the quality of meat…. Quality produce should be your next thing…. Also change your frying grease might help…. Place has nice decor and server friendly, gave her 25 tip%. I see the now hiring signs, might want to get your food in check first. This had potential to be 🔥 to bad it was 🥶

I’ve loved Alamo for years, but it’s really going downhill lately. Partner ordered the t-bone & the filet was as small as a thumb. We laughed about it! I ordered the sirloin with the asparagus and the meat was cooked correctly and tasted fine, but they only served 5 asparagus spears, it just felt very lackluster. We even asked the manager to come over and he let us know that 5 is the normal amount they serve. Last time I was here I ordered the brussel sprouts and they gave me 6 brussel halves. The quality of meat feels like it’s also taken a turn for the worse. It’s sad to see an institution shriveling, but here we are. Love supporting local, and I hope I’m still able to, but with the current state of things I’m not sure I’ll be able to keep coming back. The saving grace of the meal? Our waitress, Cass. Personable and fun, knew her stuff and took great care of us.

The Almo is such a ubiquitous part of Mattoon, that I often forget that it's there I feel like I ate there just yesterday, but, truthfully I hadn't been here in years before this visit. The decor is what you'd expect of a steak house. There are a number of tables surrounding a large U-shaped bar. It's dimly lit and cozy. Service is very friendly and prompt. I didn't have to wait long to get my drink refilled. The rolls are an essential start to your meal so be sure to try them. I had the distiller steak cooked medium which was melt-in-your-mouth good. Would have liked to have had it served a bit hotter, as it felt like it was rested a bit too long. Not a deal breaker by any means. Overall good experience. I will be back again soon.

Today (Sunday) went to Mattoon to have a nice steak dinner. However the customer service was terrible. We sat down the waitress’s came up and introduce herself and got our drink order. When she came back with our drinks, she asked if we wanted to any appetizers, we said no and she left and went to the back, without asking if we were even ready to order. She stayed back there until the other table food was ready(at this time she only had 2 tables to deal with). She brought the other table their food, then she went to the back again. After five minutes she came and got our order. She brought my salad out and she went to the back again. After I finished my salad she came back out to the other table and checked on them, they asked for their bill and to go boxes, she walked by to get them to go boxes and didn’t even pick up my empty salad bowl. Then she brought thier bill to them and then she went to the back again. After 5 more minutes she brought us our food and asked if there was anything else we said no and she left and went to back once again (empty salad bowl still sitting on table). We were waiting on her to come back out so we can get our bill. In the meantime another table came in with about 8 people and she was their waitress, she came out and got their drink order. After bringing them their drinks she came over to check on us and we were already done, I asked for their bill. She brought it out and said thank you, then left without picking up dishes or anything. I did leave her a 18% tip even though she didn’t deserve it. I know we all have bad days but do not take it out on paying customers and stay in the back the whole time. I did leave a note on the receipt saying I would of tip more if better customer service. We will not be eating there anymore, I will drive the extra mikes for...

We waited for about 5 minutes upon arrival for someone to greet and seat us. The manger sat us without apologizing for the wait when there was no one else in front of us. She took us back to a corner which was private from the other guests that were there- which we did not ask for but thought it could be nice. However it was extremely cold, to the point I had to keep my heavy jacket and hood on. We ordered the fried green beans appetizer which were a good size portion but had no flavor whatsoever. We decided to order the half slab of ribs with a ceasar salad and fries to share. The waiter did not come back and check on us often, we spent the majority of the meal with empty drink glasses. We ordered the ribs and were hopeful that they and the sides would make up for all that we had experienced thusfar. Unfortunately, we waited quite a while and the ribs had no flavor except for the BBQ that was on the very top and they were very fatty. The fries were hot but got cold very fast and became chewy, in addition the baked beans were cold and bland with a film over the top. At this point the waiter had refilled our drinks once and I had experienced enough. We asked for the manager who happened to be the lady who originally sat us. After explaining to her our experience and why we were dissatisfied she apologized all over herself saying they usually were not this busy, this corner was always cold, they turned up the heat, they didn't have anywhere else to seat us etc. (They weren't that busy!!) I explained that we both have worked in food and understand things happen that are out of her control, but for the quality and cost of this restaurant we had held much higher expectations and would not be...

Ordered 2 meals for takeout around 5:00PM over the phone, placed my order and left my first name and phone number. I asked how much the food would be, but was told they wouldn't know until they rang it up at the till (was hoping they would take a minute to do that for me over the phone). Was told it would take about 30min for food to be ready, so I went into the restaurant at 5:27, seemed like the food was already ready and they were able to have me paid and out the door at 5:30 sharp. Spent 5ish min getting home, and unpacked the food at maybe 5:38. Entree flavors and portion sizes were pretty good, burger and tuna were cooked nicely, and presentation was alright for a to-go order. 2 dinner rolls were also included in our bag. The sauce that was included with the tuna had a nice flavor, but was a bit thick. The side of broccoli didn't taste seasoned at all, --and the burger was missing lettuce-- (edit: lettuce was below the soggy bun), but those are only minor complaints. My biggest grievance was that, by the time we were able to unpack the food, some of it was a pretty soggy. The fries and onion rings were warm, but had lost their crisp while steaming in the to-go box, and the burger's bottom bun was wet/kinda gross to touch (I think the burger patty was placed directly onto the bun after cooking). Some of this probably could've been prevented by a phone call from the restaurant when the food was ready to pick up, or maybe some extra care when packing the food. Would go back to eat in person, but would have second reservations about placing a pick-up...
