Stadium Grill — Restaurant in Mattoon

The only thing that I can recommend would be the french fries. When we came inside, the hostess greeted us with a mouthful of cookie as she was stuffing her face with cookies. Then we were sat down. We ordered our drinks by a smiling waiter, and what was supposed to be a cosmopolitan tasted Like watered down Tito‘s.The second one that they brought me tasted like cranberry juice. I drank Neither. The waiter served us lukewarm at best meals. We had to wait several minutes for him to come back around to ask him for silverware as there were none on the table. I asked to speak to a manager and minutes later a manager come to the table and I told him what we had experienced coming into and up to the moment of speaking with him in the restaurant. By then our meals for dinner were completely cold. The manager took them back and my husband received fried catfish that was hot out of the fryer. He did enjoy his fried catfish and french fries. when I bit into my Power fajita bowl, it had lukewarm meat and cold broccoli and rice. Please keep in mind that the meat was not cut in a fajita fashion. It was basically pre-cooked sandwich meat as the waiter told me it is in fact the meat that they used on their sandwiches as sandwich meat, (i.e Philadelphia cheesesteak) so I would not be able to get a fajita cut and no possibility of it being cooked to a medium rare. We have been regular customers of Stadium Grill, but the last two times, the service has been HORRIBLE. Last week, the server dropped off our food and literally never came back until time for the bill. We sat with empty drinks for 20 minutes and my husband's food got cold because he was waiting for ranch. When the server finally shows up he said he had been the kitchen cleaning. At least he had the brains to apologize so we were willing to try again. Last night, our server took our order and then we didnt see her again until 12 minutes after our main courses came out. Appetizer was sat down on our table by a food carrier that desperately needed salt... no server to bring salt. My salad NEVER came out... still no server. Again, someone else brings our food out and my "Medium" steak was extra well done... no server. No ketchup for fries... no server. I ended up eating the shoe leather steak because my husband would have been done before my food even came back out. Finally, the server shows up and we tell her I never got my salad, I needed some A1 to choke down the dry steak, husband needed a beer, etc and she said "oh I'll make sure I take that off" but then brought out a salad, After my dinner, and left it on the bill. No comp for AT LEAST. the salad that was left untouched. No apology. I guess we will try...

My second visit here, and I was not disappointed. I was with a group of seven people and everyone was very happy with their meals. At our table, we ordered appetizers, fried green beans, and cheese curds to start our meal. The other people in my group ordered everything from a vegetarian pasta to steak. They all said their food was GREAT! It's a bit on the pricey side, but it's well worth the extra cash. I highly recommend it if you like pub style food. My husband ordered a burger, the "Artery Buster", I believe it's called. He could barely eat it all, and he's a big man with a big appetite. I ordered their grilled shrimp on rice with vegetables on the side; someone has to eat healthy, besides I'm not a big eater myself. I usually order smaller quantities of food. The dish I ordered was really good and just the right amount for my appetite. Next time there I will probably order it again. Very yummy, the sauce on the shrimp was sweet yet had a slight bit of heat, which is something I really enjoyed. Our server was a nice young gal who made sure we had everything we needed and kept our drinks filled. If you are in the mood for a good meal with great service and a cool atmosphere, give this place a try. Make sure and bring a bit more cash, though, as it's not a cheap place to eat.
