I waited 35 minutes for my açaí bowl while my friends already had their food. Mine seemed to take forever. I asked the lady making the drinks if my food would be ready soon, and she said "yes." However, 15 minutes later, I was still waiting. I then asked the cashier who took my order earlier if my açaí bowl was ready. She went into the kitchen and started touching a slice of banana in the refrigerator with her bare hands. Keep in mind, she was also handling money and continued to prepare my food. I told the lady making the drinks to ask her coworker to wear gloves because it's not sanitary to handle food without them, especially after handling cash.
I work at a restaurant, so I know what's up. I kindly asked them to prepare a new açaí bowl and wear gloves. After receiving my food, no apologies were made, and the staff's attitude was rude. When I finally ate my açaí bowl, it didn't taste good. I should have taken the hint and canceled my order.
This is my third time here, and although I loved the food before, today changed everything. PLEASE don't go here unless you want to get sick or risk food poisoning. The DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH and FOOD SAFETY should check this place out to see how they handle their food overall. Additionally, the workers seem to lack understanding and the ability to communicate effectively. I should have given this a...
Read moreUPDATE: Given that the owner is attempting to discredit my complaint, I want to clarify the situation. In my initial private email, I raised my concerns clearly and there was no acknowledgment of a possible issue, no indication of changes to their practices, and certainly no accountability—let alone a refund of any amount. Unfortunately, it is just not possible for me to pinpoint the exact ingredient that caused illness. I understand that mistakes can happen and I hope that the owner matter is taken seriously, as it appears this is not the first time such an issue has been reported.
My family and I ate at Belle Surf Café during our trip, and unfortunately we became ill shortly afterward with food poisoning. Based on the timing and what we ate, one possible explanation could have been the eggs, which may not have been cooked thoroughly for our meal or spoiled milk.
When I reached out to the café, I received a response that essentially denied responsibility because “no employees or anyone else got sick.” While I understand that illness while traveling can sometimes come from different sources, I had hoped for a more understanding and customer-centric reply especially since food safety is such a fundamental expectation and the timing of the symptoms suggests clear cause.
I hope this feedback encourages greater...
Read moreMy partner who has a gluten sensitivity ordered the gluten free avocado toast (for which she was charged) to go because we got it then went to Haleakala and when we sat down to eat the food we discovered it was on sourdough bread which we could not see under the heaps of sprouts when we checked it at the restaurant before heading up to the park
Owner responded which we really do appreciate - we do not want a refund; we get how hard times are nowadays and we will not ask for money back when goods were rendered but want to make sure that this kind of vigilance when serving is maintained which definitely sounds like it will be so good on them for that; do sincerely appreciate the effort. Thankfully the allergy isn't concerning only very...
