Designing Wahine — Local services in Maui

While visiting Maui, I always have to make a stop in Makawao. With some friends of mine new to Maui, we decided to walk around town checking out the shops, new and old. Along the way, we came across this beautiful gem, Designing Wahine Emporium!

We were delighted and welcomed by two staff that were very polite and helpful.

It is amazing how many different things there were to see here, enjoy, and buy to take home. They have an amazing array of gifts for friends and family or even a gift for yourself.

There is also a super cool selection of Christmas tree ornaments on display in a tree near the entrance into the store. Fun to take home and remind you every Christmas of your lovely trip to Maui.

If you happen to be in Makawao and are looking for something to wear, share, or display in your home, I highly recommend you take a look at the Designing Wahine Emporium, you won’t regret it.

Designing Wahine Emporium is an absolute treasure in the heart of Makawao! This adorable shop is filled with a beautiful selection of local, functional art, and lovely household goods that capture the spirit of Maui.

I went in just to browse, but ended up spending nearly an hour admiring everything—I wanted to buy it all! My husband had to remind me about our luggage limits, so I settled on a locally crafted room and body spray and a super-soft Aloha-themed T-shirt.

With plans to retire in Maui in the future, I already know this is where I’ll be coming back to outfit some our home. It’s not a goodbye, but a “see you soon.” Mahalo for a lovely...

Truly saddened and appalled by the level of profiling and ignorance during my first visit to this shop. They lost a potential loyal local customer. Stopped by with a friend on Sat 1/14 to look at some of their baby clothing. One of the clerks at the front desk immediately made it a point to follow behind and appeared to be looking through and counting the items we had just looked at. I found a pair of sandals on sale and respectfully asked if they had my size. She came back with a smirk and attitude saying, “ doesn’t look like we have sandals in your size...
