Denny's Restaurant — Restaurant in McAllen

Stopped in late night after work. There was 5-6 tables not fairly busy for a Sunday. I ordered eggs and sirloin with potatoes extra egg and stack of pancakes with a coffee. I waited almost 10 minutes to get my drink order taken, mind you I sat at the bar. I patiently waited, waitress takes my drink order and I already knew what I wanted. Ordered, then I waited another 10 minutes for my coffee and lucky I got it a minute or two before my meal came out. My eggs were over hard I ordered them over medium. Like to dip the potatoes in the yolk. Flagged the waitress down and told her about the eggs, didn’t want to just complain so I didn’t say anything about my over cooked chewy steak so I just ate it. They forgot my pancakes as well. I flag her again and tell her I haven’t got my pancakes either she tells the cook he just shrugged his shoulders and goes about his business. I can understand it can be overwhelming when you behind the stove, having worked fast food. But the guy just kept getting orders wrong and stuff came back or was asked to be remade. I finally get my eggs after another 11 minutes and they are still over hard, I get my pancakes and they have chocolate smeared all over them. My whole experience here wasn’t pleasant. Mark the manager didn’t seem to care either way, saw me explain to the waitress didn’t even take charge and try to solve the problem. Hopefully management reads this review and retrains the staff. I am torn about this place. It's just a diner I get it. However, this particular location was the only convenient diner near the place I moved to right before covid and it's restrictions hit this area. Also, made memories with a significant person doing the simple thing of getting his favorite breakfast when we could visit, which wasn't very often. The food to go was always good and hot plus very well portioned. I've gone in a couple of times since and the service seems to be a little above average. As far as the actual building/facilty it's quite in need of cleaning. I went to the rest room to wash my hands this last time and it was so gross. The single vent was so moldy. It was completely caked on in black stuff. The whole room smelled of dampness and just like a dirty high-school restroom. I hate to think this air circulates in the kitchen. Been eating here once a week or twice for past 3 years; however , all this month of august and September, I don’t know if there’s new management, but they never have hot coffee. Twice in one week we were brought cold coffee, & they decided to make fresh coffee. The problem is our food came to our table and coffee was apparently still brewing. Coffee came after we ate and not during. The same thing happened 2 days later. I noticed the waitresses and employees aren’t asking the patrons if they need anything else, not checking up on tables, and all tables were dirty with no one actively cleaning. The mgr kept telling new walk/ins “the wait is a little longer this evening cuz the tables are dirty.” But his two waitresses were never seen around or other employees.
